I posted this in the Providence vs. Bridgeport GDT, but I wanted to post it here for general discussion regarding MacDermid (whom I like a lot but...read below):
>>I didn't see the game, so I don't know if Svedberg was just gassed from playing 3 in 3or if the entire team just sucked yesterday...maybe a little of both?
I did see the fights posted on YouTube. I feel badly for MacDermid. He's a decent scrapper but was really tuned up yesterday by Gallant, who might be the best pound for pound fighter anywhere. He dropped lane with a nasty right. MacD skated off with a good shiner--hopefully he didn't break his orbital bone or anything like that.
You have to wonder where MacDermid fits into the big picture. He's absolutely NOT a replacement for Thornton down the line. In terms of toughness, MacDermid be suited as a #2 fighter, even in a softer, Euro-heavy NHL. He just doesn't have the skills or disposition for the enforcer job. Thornton may be a nice guy on/off the ice, but he would never let another fighter yap at him the way MacD let things happen yesterday. Makes me long for a Orr/MacIntyre type for Providence...we haven't had a real bruiser like that in a few years (McGrattan played 39 games a couple years back).>>
He isn't a very good player but Tyler Randell has had a very good year so far in the ECHL and was very good when he went back to the OHL last season after a little while with Providence.
He seems to be in much better shape this season as well and I have hope for him as a minor league enforcer, he has the mentality for it.
The entire team ran out of gas. Didn't get off to a good start, climbed back into it, but were just going thru the motions by the second. Seriously, the last four minutes of the second felt like the last four minutes of the third when you know you're going to lose and just trying to run time out and not get hurt. Svedberg definitely did not have a good game, although Hutch's relief work wasn't great either.
As far as the MacDermid fight goes, my feeling was he didn't want to get his second major that soon, knowing that it was possible the game was going to devolve into a bleepshow in the third. BPort is loaded with thugs. I think Lane is developing into a more rounded player, although he didn't show much yesterday but no one did.
The Wife and I are taking in a game in up at the 4C's after the holidays. What is it like? It looks kinda small and run down from some pics I've seen. The last time I was there was for a Styx concert many years ago.
I went to the game Sunday, felt the difference between Providence and Bridgeport was finishers amongst the forwards. Cunningham and Spooner were everywhere with effort, great board work and positioning. Too bad I didn't get to see the P-Bruins that played Fri. and Sat.
Saw Sauve walking around the arena Sunday looked ok, so hopefully he gets clearance this week to practice. If not the doctors and Cassidy are probably playing it safe.

They have apparently started renovation which has led to Portland playing in Lewiston for a number of games.
Jared Knight, out since Oct. 13, had MRI on hamstring. "There's something going on there,'' says Butch Cassidy. Probably out til early Dec.
Rest of P-Bs injury report: Exelby (groin) took personal day. Possible for wkend; Krug (ankle), needed a maintenance day. In for wkend Cohen left practice early. Groin? Whitfield (upper body) and Sauve (concussion) remain out

Too bad about Knight. Hopefully he heals up soon and logs some minutes.

It's a dump...sorry. Should start looking better next season though.
At this moment--and things could change as soon as tomorrow--Providence is out of the basement in their division standings and are two points behind first-placed Worcester with one game in hand. It's a very tight division, no doubt.
jared knight with the worst pulled hamstring in human history.
I know its just one injury, but with an extensive injury history throughout juniors, any chance we have another maxime sauve on our hands? A good talent that can't stay on the ice?

I don't think we have anything to worry about.Jared has had like 1 concussion, neck soreness, high ankle sprain, and now this pulled hammy. Yet, he still played at a high level when he had his sprain last season. He went out there in pain and played good.
Not to mention, he suffers from type 1 diabetes. If anything, that's more concerning that any of these things. But I don't see it a problem.
Whereas my man Rico Sauve, has pins in his ankle, hip injuries, wrist injuries, concussions etc. To me that's more extensive than anything Jared has. But I'm hopeful Sauve can get back on the ice because the kid can FLY and is so talented. Sucks that he keeps on getting injured.
