Watching Preds vs Rangers from 2000... it's amazing even in just 12 years how much more awareness the players have on ice now, especially the bottom line players, the positioning and decision making are all much better today. I think that has a lot more to do with decreased scoring than the size of players and the defensive systems. The game of years past was more geared toward individual player skill and being able to make more plays to beat your opponent. Today the game is more of a ping pong contest and wait for the other team to make a mistake.
Just a little observation on the evolution of the game.
Leafs fan here, noticed on the trade board that Lupul for Austin Watson+ was mentioned.
If Lupul was on a new (reasonable) contract, any chance you guys would consider it?
I was the guy that proposed that on the trade boards, so don't count me twice, but I still like it. That said, Watson is tearing up the AHL right now, very pleased with his development.
One other Leafs trade I was thinking about: Gardiner for Watson+Klein?
Value-wise, YES. The issue is that we currently have Josi, Blum, and Ellis as our young D corps, all of whom are offensive D in the mold of Gardiner. Klein, Hannan, and Gill are our DFD (Weber is neither really, TWD), so if we trade Klein, it's down to Hannan and Gill, both retired in two years. We can't have just OFD.

Not worth it. Klein is one of our few vet defenders, get rid of him and our d looks worse then it already is. Maybe Gardiner for Watson+ pick? But then again I'd personally want to hold on to our forward prospects with the young dmen we have.

Like others have said, it's pretty good value, I'll give you that. However the organization needs to look ahead at guys like Erat, Legwand, Fisher, etc, who won't be around forever and plan accordingly. That's where prospects like Beck, Latta, Leipsic, Watson come in.
Rumors are all over the place that Evander Kane and the Jets organization are none too happy with each other. "Maturity issues" apparently.
If he really does get traded, Poile better make a serious offer. Here is a young guy that can be "that forward" we've been missing. I could see Wilson+ interesting them since they need young forwards and Wilson is from the Peg. I saw a Colorado fan suggest Duchene for Kane, which makes a crazy amount of sense to me both ways. We can't match that offer, but still worth inquiring if you're Poile. Kane would look great in gold.

I'm just seeing that one article which is really nothing (on the trades board). Are there other sources?

Not 100% where they're getting it, but WPG fans have been talking about it for awhile now. I think it's more of a general consensus thing rather than one incident. Could be total BS, could be total truth. No one knows really.

The only thing I've heard, or seen, was a picture that he posted online with him holding a pile of cash in Las Vegas. Which he took down shortly afterwards. Hard to sift through whatever other rumors are floating around.
He's 21 and has an unprecedented amount of money. He'll settle down. I really hope Cheveldayoff is smarter than to give up on an outstanding talent like Kane simply because he's not done growing up yet.
Game 5 against detroit is on FSN right now. Focusing on our D. Josi has made two huge plays, when suter whiffed big on one early. Hopefully a sign of things to come
Ok, so the NHL plans a negotiation...on NYDAY...in Times Sq. I guess that means we're down to some importance in this b.s. (of course, with these clowns, one NEVER knows).
are there any free agents out there that poile might try to grab as a last minute addition given the Bourque injury? Or does he just plug Mueller in and go from there?
