Team Atlantic should be solid this year, no real superstars (so far), but a lot of depth up front and a solid blueline, not to mention one of the tournament's best goalies...

Not that I know of, unfortunately.
I've been looking for a few days and it's the only Canadian one missing after the Team West roster was made official today.
I would hope Gallant..Guy is flying out there and 4th in league scoring
I can't beleive McCabe and White were picked. White to me seems like he has regressed this season bigtime and McCabe isn't far behind..McCabe has an excuse after not seeing much icetime all year.
I can't find any confirmation that Gallant is on the team, so I left him off for now.
It'd make sense because he's a returning player, but I'm not going to post it and have it end up not being true.
Also, I found the seventh member of the defense (Alex Mann), so it looks like Luc Deschênes will not make the team.
If they left off Blanchard and Gallant they are crazy. Both would be impact players for this squad. Problem with these teams is there is a ton of backroom politics and it really makes ya question the legitimacy of those involved with setting up the final rosters. Blanchard is leading the NS Major Midget league with 48pts in 23 games. Him and Gallant should be a lock over at least a handful of the players chosen
Without looking it up I would assume majority of these forwards play Q or Jr A, so leading Midget in points is probably over looked, was talking to one scout who said Alex Gallant showed up to Q camp at 220 pounds, he weighed in at the Monctonian at about 180, so he looks like he could be a player to watch
It appears Alex was left off the list, Luc Deschenes has made the team

Reason: roster announces
i'm not saying Gallant doesnt deserve a spot. However, he did not weigh in at the monctonian. They only weighed in the undrafted prospects. I interviewed the kid before the draft last summer. As well as many teams did. Do you not read into the fact he was a top 10 prospect that slid to the 4th round..... Read into it. if it's not talent...what else could it be. Figure it out.
i dont know the kid personally, he could be a great kid. But, from the interview i had and the experience bathurst have had with him. If i was coaching this team, he would not be on it.
This is a 10-14 day tournament. You dont have time to deal with characters. You need the best players that are good kids off the ice and have their head at the right spot 100% of the time.
182 at the Monctonian.. was there and seen the sheet
I guess that old adage is true that once your labeled something it will always stick no matter how quickly or hard ya work to overcome. They have 5 or 6 guys here that weren't even at the camp?? Blanchard must be dissapointed, kid should've been a lock over Jr.A players..Leading league, awesome showing at Monctonian
A few of those players are in the bleachers/sit most of the time for the Q and they made this team over guys who are are playing regularly in MM (like Blanchard).
Who are the top 6 skilled guys and who will play the 6 shut down roles?
Agree with comments on White and McCabe, but Alex Mann - really? Where is he even playing this year anyways?
What happened to Olivier Arsenault and Nick Gibson?
There is a difference between saying your trying to overcome something and actually doing something about it. I"ll give you an example: last year, i watched Gallant play 10-12 times (i'm a Q scout). The only games he played to his talent was the games at the monctonnian last year, especially at the prospect game. All other games, he was completely uninspired. No drive, did not assert himself, etc..etc. When he had the puck on his stick, he worked, when he didnt - he was a ghost.
Fast forward to this year. I've seen him play with Bathurst, and i've seen him play midget. Beginning of camp he was out of shape. Kids make mistakes, etc..etc, But, what does that say about a kid who was expected to be drafted in the first round and gets drafted in the 4th, and then shows up at camp in horrible shape!!!! I would have expected he wanted to prove people wrong and be in the shape of his life and make teams regret not choosing him sooner in the draft.
Since he's been at midget, i've seen him 5 times. 3 at the monctonnian and two other games. Monctonnian were good games.....the two other games where awful. completely uninspired performances. Had i not known who he was, i would not have even noticed him.
He leaves you with the impression that there is so much more to him than what he shows. But, you can't reward someone completely on what they "could be", at a certain point, he has to play up to his talents. Again...in a 10-14 day tournament, coaches dont have time to deal with egos and attitudes. in the past 10-12months, he has played it up to a certain level depending who is in the stands. If that is what he is labelled, i can tell you that he has written that label himself. Only he can create a new label for himself. Is that what you want on a team. He has done this as recently as last weekend....so...it's up to him to show people he has changed and he has to play every games with passion and desire.
I do agree however, 100% with you on Blanchard. That omission is troubling...he's better than 4-5 of those forwards that made the team.
From all reports i've heard is that Gallant has overcome everything very well. Most of his trouble came from a devastating injury, people forget this. He had a broken leg and wasn't on skates til late August. He didn't play in Bathurst much and was still working to get back into shape as he was when he returned to midget. He didn't get to 4th in league scoring in his last half dozen games by playing uninspired lazy hockey. Maybe it was too little too late but right now he is back looking like the player he was when he was predicted to go high first round in the Q draft. IMO to get left off this team as well as Blanchard is troubling.. I was talking to his coach last week who told me he's been exceptional lately and apparently has been getting calls from Bathurst on availability. I was told he would have played their last game in PEI if it wasn't for the Monctonian. There is way too much hearsay when it comes to 15 and 16 year old kids on these boards.
I understand Gallant was in a major car accident on the Confederation Bridge on the way to the Monctonian so he showed a lot of courage to play at all. I watched most of the games - he is back in old form. He is factoring into most of the Major Midget games and low penalty minutes so I see no issues. He would contribute well at the U-17 with last years experience under his belt.
Maybe players are choosen as a piece to the overall puzzle. Meaning, you can't have 12 snipers/chosen ones/go-to guys on a team. That just doesnt work out. They all want to be THE GUY. So you need to bring in some guys who fill certain roles and maybe that's why certain players were omitted.
Just like defense. You can only have a couple of rushing defenseman! Imagine if all 8 were rushers of the puck? I'd pity the Goalies.
