Eberle is a one-season wonder with an unsustainable shooting %.

No and no from Blues and Caps.

Considering that Eberle has had success at every level he's played he sure looks like a 1 season wonder to me....

At least the edited deal is less of a robbery.

2nd in scoring in the AHL, 8 points in 8 games at the WCs. And now he finally has a puck moving D.

You clearly know very little about Eberle...

I think Kreator was being sarcastic.

Man I hate to be "this guy," but nobody has maintained a SH% as high as Eberle's post-lockout. Sooooooo....

Then he will start taking more shots... Why is that so hard for people to believe?
It's not like he took 600 shots last year.
He can still maintain a 30+ goal season.

I've had a mental debate about Carlson vs. Eberle before. Ultimately, I think I'd stick with Carlson, at least until Green proved he can remain healthy and Orlov proves he can step up defensively.

Good value, doubt any team goes for it. Especially StL.

Then the Washington fans will reject and say that the Oilers aren't giving up enough.

I don't mind having the Schultz monopoly in the NHL. But not at the cost of JE14.

Because Marek Svatos? Lol. I don't think "take more shots" is quite as easy as it sounds. If his SH% regressed a measly 3%, he'd have to take 35 more shots on net to hold 34 goals. Now, I think Jordan Eberle is just a naturally good shooter, so I'd expect him to shoot anywhere from around 12% to 15%, using TCAB's data. Which is pretty good. He just didn't take a whole lot of shots last year, which is more problematic when you're not shooting a 19%. So while I think Eberle is a great player, I'm not trading John Carlson for him after one season.

the caps just inked carlson to a 6 year deal at just under $4m per. hockey anaylists as recently as his last game have suggested he is a norris trophy winner in the near future. those two things together mean you dont trade that player. period.

that fact that eberle hasnt played a game with playoff ramifications yet, much less in the playoffs and the capitals a team that needs playoff performers more than anything doesnt really add to the draw.

I hope not. He's not even the best defenseman on his own team (see: Alzner, Karl).

What he said ^. I would absolutely love to have Eberle on the Blues. But unless a center is coming back, Berglund isn't going anywhere. And I'm not really in an hurry to see the Blues get rid of Shattenkirk. That said, I'm glad someone made a proposal that doesn't try to get Berglund out of of St. Louis while giving up absolutely noting.

Right now, yup. Carlson's upside is definitely higher, and he's also a much more reasonable Norris candidate given his better offensive numbers.

People love to focus on the negative.

Eberle was 15th in league scoring and had the 11th best ppg average of all players that played 50+ games last season while only averaging 17:35 a game. There were only two players that averaged less ice time in the top 50. Seguin had 67 points(29th in the league) in 81 games while averaging 16:56 and Purcell had 65 points(40th in the league) while averaging 16:07.

Most of the players ahead of Eberle in points were averaging 2-4 minutes a night more than him. Was his shooting% high? Yes, but you have got to have something going for you if you can sustain that for an entire season. Eberle has a deadly shot and with more ice time, I'm sure he'll continue to be a 30+ goal scorer in the league.
