Burress is still pretty solid. He had 8 TD's last year and despite the fans negative perception of him, his past teammates still rave about the guy and even people in the Pittsburgh media have consistently mentioned that he was a good guy based on their interaction with him.

He can't be an every down WR at this point but I really do think he can help this team in the red zone and in general is a great compliment style-wise to our other smaller WR's.

Sucks for Baron Batch to be the odd man out. I get it since he was the low man on a very deep RB stable but I thought he was a good kid and was pretty solid at everything. I'd imagine the Steelers will bring him back at some point if no one else picks him up.

^ That's good news.

Steelers could make a run even as a wild card if a perfect storm of good health (Ben, Troy, DeCastro, Brown etc.) all get healthy down the stretch but that never seems to happen for them. One key guy comes back and 2 or 3 more go down with big injuries.

i love a good effigy but that seems like it's in bad taste.

the Oosterbaan effigy story is pretty interesting.

Baron Batch is most definitely practice squad eligible, as long as no one claims him.

Some minor Pirates news:

Vic Black, Tony Sanchez, Phil Irwin, Ramon Cabrera, and Hunter Strickland were added to the 40-man roster so they wouldn't be exposed to the Rule 5 Draft. Black, Sanchez, and Irwin are no surprise and Cabrera is the only prospect behind Sanchez within 4 years of Major League ready at his position in the system so it's no surprise that he was added. Strickland was a coin-toss decision as he and Jeff Inman are extremely comparable players.

There are no real big names exposed to the draft by the Pirates, but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple players are taken regardless. Inman turns 25 this week and is hard-throwing reliever, so he's in-line with the type of player who tends to get plucked pretty regularly, though he's no guarantee (rather pedestrian numbers in AA at that and a limited ceiling...the same flaws exist with Strickland but he's a year younger (and has another year less of development - he missed 2011) and I think he has better stuff...regardless, these are both #40 on a 40 man roster-type players so no sweat should be lost). Kyle Kaminska is a surprise just because he was in the Gaby Sanchez deal and took up one of the team's AFL spots...I'm sort of expecting him to be plucked, but I expect him to be returned to the Pirates at some point. He just turned 24 and has some higher level experience...but he struggled mightily at AA and AAA before the trade and is far from being Major League ready and frankly I don't think he has enough upside to pull the 'fake an injury for a year' deal.

Gift Ngoepe didn't have to be protected because of a loophole.

I really hope Strickland makes a huge leap and can carve out a solid career as a reliever in the Majors...and preferably grows a killer mustache or something. Hunter Strickland is the perfect name for a set-up man. For trivia's sake, Strickland was the prospect acquired in the 2009 Adam LaRoche deal.

I met his wife. Not at all what I expected from Ben. She's pretty, but not glamorous. She is also an independent chick. She's in medicine...physician assistant I think.

RG3 is pretty amazing.

The Ben injury news sounds promising. Congrats to him on Ben Jr. too.

Yeah, RG3 and Luck are phenomenal this season. Pretty scary that they're only rookies. In 3-4 years, they'll dominate the league.

Matt Ryan was supposed to dominate the league after his first year also. Give them both a few years when there's enough tape.

Anyone else watching this Pats/Jets game? Don't even know if I can watch anymore. Hate both teams, but the Jets are horrid. The Sanchez fumble was rather hilarious though.

The only reason why Ohio State is unbeaten is because you guys played pancake teams for your non-conference games.

OSU picked a wrong year to be undefeated. Gonna hard to repeat it for next season.
