Is the game really easy or something? How do you make it so your team can start to dominate?

I'm definitely considering buying the game but I'm scared I'll get addicted.

While I've never managed in the lower leagues since I don't know any of the players which I find boring but generally the game is pretty easy. The philosophy is the same no matter what level you're managing in. The AI has always been terrible at squad building and developing young players so after a few seasons it's easy to buy cheap young players and turn them into world beaters.

To be fair, the game would be bat**** boring if you couldn't bring lower level teams up to glory

Just saw this on BBC's gossip page (don't know if it's legit though):

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/

Quote:
Azerbaijani club Baku FC have appointed Vugar Guloglan oglu Huseynzade, aged just 21, as their new manager in preference to French former European player of the year Jean-Pierre Papin - based on his experience of playing the computer game Football Manager.
There's hope!!

Having read a full article about the kid the other day in a Swedish newspaper (he grew up in Sweden) there's a lot more to the story than just Football Manager.

No. Best you could do is to google-translate the original.

A brief summary:

He has known the FC Baku chairman for several years, having first met him at a hotel. He has also studied management in Boston for 3 semesters and has previous work experience from a scouting agency with connections in the former Soviet Union.
He worked as an assistant to the Baku chairman from December last year until getting the job as director of sport.

In other words, there is a whole lot more to this story than him just playing FM.

The story is on Yahoo Sports in English IIRC.

It's more of a joke article then a serious one (in English anyway)

What team are you managing?

It's hard to buy established players, but you should be able to to buy young players and develop them yourself.

What I typically do is run a 5 or 6 season campaign with one of my two favs Milan or Juve. I chose Juve for '12 so went with Milan now. I can attract decent players, but I find the strong youngsters that aren't even with big name clubs cost a ton. Whereas last year there were tons of bargains at the beginning of the game, both name and low rep youngsters.

Your two favorites clubs are milan and juve? Does not compute

Is it just me or is the injury rate in the game really high? Lately I've been losing guys to injuries in every match I've had even though the players are fit and as rested as the tight match schedule allows them to be (~95%).

Yeah true, a bit higher than previous versions. The other day I got 3 players injured in the same game, with 2 injured after I completed my subs so I finished the game with 9 players.

Players value in this game really mean absolutely nothing. A players valued at 5M$ would never get sold for anything less than 15M$ even if he's transfer listed. And when you put a player on a transfer list you almost never get any offer with good value.

Maybe you need to load more leagues.
I've had no problem selling players.
Just sold a 29 year old keeper, valued at 4.something, for 15 million.
I always jack up my prices and still get good offers.

I've struggled to get a long term going but I've put that down to CoD being out and me looking for a job and going to college.

Normally I can do a season or two then I get bored.

Question... how can we extend a player's contract instead of just signing a new one?

Let's say a player makes 20k a week and his contract ends at the end of the season. I want to extend his contract for 2 years at 30k but I still want him to make 20k for the remainder of the current season. I can't seem to figure out how to do it unless I wait until season ends, but then starting from January the player could sign with any team he wants on a pre-contract agreement as a free agent and then leave at the end of the season.

You can only do that when offering the initial contract I think.

You can add clauses in when making a contract that have it auto extend after a while.

After winning 2 MLS cup I was hired by West Brom who were dead last in EPL with half the season left and 10 pts behind safe place, I was able by the end if the season to save the team from relegation and finish at 17th place.

Next season, with practically the same team, I finished 7th they're talking about a miracle in the media lol. I'm having a lot of difficulties buying players though, I'm given a 10M transfer budget which allow me to buy only one decent player a year only. I bought a lot of 17-20 yrs old players though with 4* minimum potential, I hope they can become goo players because my key players are aging and there is no way I can buy a 4* player for less than 20M.

Tempted to start in the Championship and buy young players with the intention of them getting better and being sold on for profit and also getting promoted etc.
