Players Who Aren't Exactly Who They're Labeled To Be

Players are always titled or known to be something. Sakic had a wicked wrister. Scott Stevens was known for being physical. Ryan Callahan is a defensive specialist. But can you name some players who are always said to be something, when really that isn't true, or they have other aspects much better. I'll start with my own team. A lot of people call Matt Duchene a playmaker and say he needs a linemate he can feed the puck to. While he can make a great pass, I think he is much more of a goal scorer than playmaker.

Let's see some more examples while we desperately wait for hockey to come back to us.

I think I remember a PBP guy calling Andrew Ladd the "trigger man."

Some people call Vesa Toskala a goalie... I beg to differ.

Erik Cole is whiny, irritating, and selfish. Feel like that's not typically a label he's given.

Blake Wheeler isn't soft.

He's a forechecking and puck-possession machine.

Subban is not classless. Full of swag yes, lacking class, no.

Kovalchuk isn't the selfish puck hog who won't play a lick of defense everyone outside of NJ/ATL thinks he is.

Buff is bad defensively. Not true. He's solid in his own end...it's the transition between zones he has problems with.

Nvm, I guess he is bad defensively.

Joe Corvo is an offensive defenseman.

False. You called him a defenseman. That is also implying that he's a hockey player.

Swag is twenty times worse than classless.

In fact, I would start right there. I wouldn't call Cally a defensive specialist - many times, his coverage in the defensive zone is pretty mediocre. What he is though, without a doubt, is an energy player, a hard worker who puts his body on the line. Always hustling, always trying to block shots, always putting in 100%.

People call Chris Stewart a power forward, unfortunately he does not play like one at all, just because he drops the gloves every now and then doesnt make him a power forward.

I have to agree with the classless Subban thing. He's just a kid with a bit of attitude. And we've all seen him check on guys that he caught with clean hard hits to make sure they are ok. I don't see how that's classless.

Alex Burrows is not a dirty player. Check out his suspension history (there is none). And the biting was just because he was hungry. Marc Savard showed how you can get nutrients from a hockey glove...

when you head is against the glass, and someone sticks their thick sweaty leather glove finger in your mouth, what are you supposed to do, suck it?

Dive out of the way? He's pretty good at that. Or am I thinking of Kessler?

He had a total of 4 elbowin penalties his entire career and was only suspended once (and not even related to a check he threw)

just mindless Stevens bashing from what's likely a bitter rag fan

Burrows has a reputation for many things but he doesn't dive.

Also, awful diving jokes from a team with Marchand, Thomas, and even Chara who goes down pretty easy? Com'on, pull yourself together.

Who is this Kessler you speak of?

This. He has been a great leader for the Habs, and has helped Patches a lot with his injury.

LOL!

I agree in the sense that it is overblown, but the reaction from this place, towards your post, is going to be awesome.
