Linus Omark to MTL

RFA for Edm, 25 years old, 2nd in scoring in the Swiss league with 32 points in 23 games.

Smaller forward with some flashy shoot out moves (2 for 7 in career).

Would need to crack Montreal's Top 6 in order to make sense for them.

Could he be had for a draft pick and or an over-paid veteran forward (Gionta or Bourque)?

Something like
Omark

for
2nd in 2013
Bourque

or

Omark
2nd in 2013

for
Gionta

Overpaid Gionta?!

Year 1 with Mtl

28 goals in 61 regular season

9 goals in 19 playoff games.

total of 37 goals in 80 games.

year 2 with Mtl

29 goals in 82 games
3 goals in 7 playoff games.

total of 32 goals in 89 games.

year 3

8 goals in 31 games

together 77 goals in 200 games

Average about 30 goals per 82 games.

How is he overpaid?

And Bourque and a 2nd round pick!?!?

As bad as Bourque is, he still scored 18 goals last year, and isn't making much at 3.3M

Those are both laughable.

Habs wouldn't even trade a 2nd for Omark

I lol'd

Omark isn't worth a 2nd on his own, and you want the Habs to add Bourque too?

Omark's value is probably around a 5th right now.

So if his value is a 5th right now would EDM take on Bourque for 3.5 more years at $3.333 cap hit and $10.5 mill owed in salary?

Why would Mtl gave Bourque away?

Are the Habs in some sort of cap issue? No Bourque sucked, but so did the rest of the team, the guy has proven he could score in the league, and Mtl is not only lacking scoring, but also lacking a guy that can play LW.

Makes no sense at all

I could see something around Omark for Bourque if the Habs want to get rid of Bourque like most Habs fans seem to suggest

At least Bourque has size and he is proven at the NHL level, it makes no sense at all.

If any team wanted Omark, the Oilers would have already traded him to them.

According to well placed sources the oilers were trying to get a 4th rounder at the last draft and could even get that. People need to realize that the european game is different. And omark is more suited to european hockey

Omark is worth about a 3rd, his performance has brought some interest from some Wing fans as well.

Habs can keep Bourque, I don't like Omark, but saw too much of Bourque when he was with Calgary to know the Oilers wouldn't want him.

If this was the case, why is he still the Oiler protected list.

I'd imagine he could be had for a 4th-5th round pick. He's never going back to Oilers and it's doubtful he has what it takes to play on a scoring line in the NHL.

He's got a pretty decent set of tools. Strong along the boards for a small guy and good with the puck. But he's sulky in the wrong way and never seemed that committed to doing what it takes to be a NHL player.

I wouldnt give anything more than a 4-5th round pick for Omark.
He has skills but it didnt work out with the Oilers and I doubt they see him as high as they used to. Also, I doubt that he will be back with the Oilers anytime soon.

I am willing to bet that the love affair with midgets will be a thing of the past in Montreal under Bergevin. If u look at the cup champion kings, the two smallest players are Brown and Richards and they are pretty mean to play against. Players like Desharnais and Gionta will soon be replaced. There is no chance that the player you speak of from Edmonton will be obtained by Bergevin.

I don't think Omark is a player I'd look for from the Habs' POV. Maybe I'd give a 5th rounder. But flip side, I'd consider moving Bourque for him, just on the hunch that Bourque's ultimate value will be less than a 5th and it works as a salary dump. Not that Bourque's salary has been bad for some of his past exploits, but he was just so putrid as a Hab, even if it's only half a season, that I'd feel like it was a fair gamble to treat him as a dump, *if* we got some other player back who might be a gamble (even of an entirely different type) to score some goals for us. Omark is basically a no-risk gamble. Bourque is a gamble with a modestly large contract attached.

I think it is way to soon to dump Bourque. The whole team was a mess last year and its hard to judge Bourqeue on not performing under RC as almost no one did. If he continues to score 18 goals for 3.3M he is maybe slightly over payed, but if he gets to 27 again he is a steal. We also need a physical presence on the second line next to Plekanec and Gionta and right now Bourque is the best option.
