A perfect capsule of most of what is wrong in today's world: all black and white, no degrees in between...

I would have used "no shades of grey" but we all know where that could have led.

EDIT: I see your point -- that you don't condone it but you also don't punish it. And I agree. If I were a coach, I wouldn't condone it and I likely wouldn't punish it, but I'd make sure that my players understood that jumping a guy after a clean hit is not how we play the game. Respect the game, respect your teammates, and respect your opponents just as much. Cheapshots aren't respectful.
And there's a smart man (or woman, for all I know). You must be doing well in school.

How has Frattin looked in the little amount of games he played?

Goal scoring machine. Hasn't missed a beat from last years playoffs.

For once the stat line is actually an accurate assessment of the player.
3 games, 4 goals. Sort of says it all.

Mark Owuya is the future bonafide #1 goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The sooner Eakins realizes this and starts giving him the bulk of starts, the sooner this prediction will begin to look like reality.
From EP

"To describe Owuya as a goaltender is not very easy. A butterfly goalie with a technique that is not very developed nor pretty, but he has good attitude, self confidence and stops the pucks, which it all is about in the end. He has a lot of advantage being of large size (62) and is pretty good at moving side-to-side. Has problems with high shots. Agility could still be better."

Last year he was hot, .929 Sv% and 1.94 GAA.
This year he's had a pair of bad games and hasn't had a chance to get going.

But I don't know if Owuya has good enough positioning or glove to make it to the NHL.

I haven't been able to watch many Marlies games, but is there a reason no one has mentioned anything about Spencer Abbott? I forgot he even existed, and then I Google'd his stats and he has 6 pts in 4 games, wtf?

Clearly not what he's looking for.

In short, all the goalies have been underwhelming and inconsistent.

I think Rynnas has had the best game of any of the goalies, but he's also had the worst. He's wildly inconsistent.

Scrivens has been bad, and made some silly mistakes, but he's starting to play better with each game. He seems to make me real frustrated at least once a game, though.

Owuya has only played two games; both games were very meh. I wish he would be given an actual chance.

Scrivens has been average to bad IMO. Some may defend him but I haven't been impressed.

Rynnas is undefeated in regulation, one shoot out loss I believe. He's looked pretty good. Owuya hasn't played much.

Have a question for those of you who follow the Marlies.

What is going on with Colburne?

Is he playing better than his stats indicate?

Can't just go of stats but 1 goal in 14 games suggest he is labouring.

I was thinking that Colburne might be the key piece in a trade for Luongo but now might might be hesitant making the deal. Is there progress here? How do you see his overall game and how do you project him moving ahead? Is there any suggestion he is a bust? And if you were Vancouver would you be moving Luongo to get Colburne?

Not trying to slag anyone here but only trying to get some insight into this player.

Colborne is definitely playing better than his stats indicate. However, he seems to be playing a lot more timid lately. I think Eakins has him centering Frattin to see if he can get Colborne going.

I didn't follow the Marlies enough last year to give you an honest opinion on his progress but the kid's skating seems greatly improved.

I remember Colborne saying at the beginning of the year that his wrist still wasn't 100 percent. I remember saying it was pretty silly for him to be playing if his wrist wasn't 100 percent yet. It's probably still bugging him.

Kadri has 2 goals, Colborne has 1.

Kadri should be considered an offensive player, but I'm not certain that is going to be Joe's forte, however I think he needs some beef. 6'5" and 213? Antropov 6'6", 240 lbs., Sundin 6'5" , 231 lbs. Steckel 6'5", 217.

Marlies have 2 players top 50 in PP goals and one of them is Frattin who has played 4 games. Hard to get the cheap assists if your shooters are firing blanks on the PP.

Jury is still out on Colborne, but we should have a better idea end of season.

Agreed that ideally he bulks up more but it's not that easy for him really:

Article from June this past summer:
http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/...m-joe-colborne

Quote:
Colborne, the AHL’s player of the month for October, also had to deal with injuries and a high metabolism. The big centre’s diet includes 4,000 to 5,000 calories a day, and he recently added three different supplemental protein plans, monitored by the team nutritionist.
Quote:
adding his weight ranges from 208 to 218 pounds during the season. “I think if I can get to 225 pounds and still be powerful with my skating and everything, that’d be my goal.”

I used to be that way and it used to drive me crazy. Some work out buds could add muscle in weeks, and I'd be doing the same reps and stay the same weight.

Let's hope Joe isn't the same took me to about age 40 before I changed.

Steckel might be in the same boat, and I wonder if that is part of the reason he's a 3rd./4th. liner, his skating isn't good enough to overcome his lack of beef. His weight would be good for a 6'1" player (I know size isn't everything but it certainly doesn't hurt - unless you skate in quick sand).

40 years, oh man, I hope he doesn't take that long either haha. Must suck for him, mentally especially, knowing that he can try and try and try and still get nowhere. Nothing he can really do about it which is always the worst feeling. I wonder if his style of game will change a little to find a niche for him. Like ideally we want him to be a big center and seems like he does too, but I wonder if that role will change to say a big frame winger who is tough to move off the puck.

How well did that work out for Vancouver vs. Bruins.

I think Luongo was a little intimidated in Boston.
