I have little doubt that they wanted Kadri at the time but it's also true that Nieuwendyk had basically zero to do with that draft other than calling out the name at the podium.
It's pretty clear that there wasn't as big of an emphasis on 'character' back then as there is now.
We're stll stuck with Glennie for the time being, though.....hopefully he magically finds his game soon, because his value probably can't get much lower at this point.

Yep, I forgot about the fact that Nieuwendyk had zero say in probably the first two drafts. The next two are debatable though, but I'm not sure as that's technically what the scouting staff is for.
Could it maybe be something to do with fantasy sports? I don't play so idk.
I've been doing fantasy football for 5 years now. Maybe, but I doubt it. I don't know. It would be weird for him to say something about being skratched now.
Regardless of context, I never see anything positive about this kid. Since day one it's been nothing but injuries, bad press, and now mystical online commentary.

He's not worth the trouble.
Maybe I'm being dumb saying this, but looking back at the 2009 draft, it looks like a down year (obviously excluding Tavares/Duchene/etc). I only follow the Stars' prospects though.

Kulikov is a bright spot in the draft, and he was unfortunately picked after Glennie.
People don't bemoan this guy much, but Jared Cowen had a very good last year in Ottawa. However, it's hard to blame teams for being scared of his knee. It's sad he's suffered another major injury ... this time his hip. We'll see if he can bounce back from this one.
Bob Sturm always likes to whine about Dallas not taking Ryan Ellis.

No way. Here's just some guys taken after Glennie:
Jared Cowen (9th)
Peter Holland (15th)
David Rundblad (17th)
Chris Kredier (19th)
Tim Erixon (23rd)
Marcus Johansson (24th)
Kyle Palmieri (28th)
All extremely promising prospects. Glennie doesn't hold a candle to any of them. Anaheim really made out like bandits in that draft.
2009 might be slightly weaker than average. That won't be borne out for a long time though.
As it concerns Glennie you probably could've picked almost anyone else in that first round and come out ahead of where the Stars are (except for Paradis... Schroeder is debatable).

Seen him live too many times. He has all of the tools, and if he wasn't in the Vancouver system I really think he'd already be a great 2nd line NHLer.

That's who I was hoping for. Either him, Paajarvi, or Cowen. We'll see how they turn out but at this point they're all better than Glennie. Even though people here already have Paajarvi on the hot stove.

Since it's on topic and some people may not know about this.

I think they'll look at defence if it's there ... but a dman as good as Kulikov won't be there and Forbort isn't quite that guy.
