Hatcher, Ludwig, Blake, Jovo, Konstantinov, Pronger, and this is just off the top of my head. And we're just talking DPE, not historically fearsome hitters like Robinson and Potvin.
You got footage of Pronger or throwing a Scott Stevens-esque hit? I already know the answer to this. Pronger was a stick-checker. He did his damage with trees during Stevens' career. Jovanovski and Ludwig used to clutch on to people and toss them, which isn't what I'm talking about nor is it the type of thing that would cause a Mark Messier to swing a stick at your head because it wasn't something that would hurt you.
And Hatcher and Konstantinov were two guys that were forced to pay a price for playing that way, although Konstantinov didn't really hit to injure and Hatcher eventually stopped paying the price when the referees inexplicably started protecting the guy during the twilight of Stevens' career. Probably because of the Betruzzi incident.
Now Brendan Witt, Steve Webb, Vaclav Varada and Tyson Nash were four more guys who would just run people consequences be damned. But they aren't exactly from Stevens' "era," solidifying jobs after Stevens was already old.

His back checking is great, his man to man defensive coverage is very good and he uses that long reach to his advantage. He is a complete 3 zone player now. Not that drop pass giveaway machine who doesn't back check player he was.

Surprisingly, yes. There are some people who consider him a pest. Some sports personnel [TSN, Sportsnet, ETC] call him a pest, too. That is probably why.
Ryan Kesler scored 40 goals in 2011 while being utilized almost entirely in a shutdown role en-route to the Selke.
In reality, however, he wasn't a checking forward until Malhotra's eye injury (8th in team forward QoC), but that was lost on the voting populace in the midst of Kesler's reputation, offensive breakout and the fact that he was still a big part of Vancouver's PK.

Joe Thornton, playoff choker, is PPG over his past 4 playoff rounds, despite being under PPG in the corresponding regular seasons.
Patrick Marleau, softest play in the NHL, is the only Shark who will regularly stand in front of the net and take all sorts of abuse. Also, he has more hits than Thornton and Pavelski combined.

Huh? Would you mind repeating that more comprehensibly?
I don't know how prevalent it is but Tom Gilbert is a defenseman who happens to have offense, not an offensive defenseman. The past couple years his zone start percentage has been very close to 50% and he faces top pair competition. Compare that to a player like Karlsson, who is an excellent offensive D with a ZS nearing 60% or a lesser example in MA Bergeron with his 70% this year and you'll understand the difference.
I only have 1 year's sample of watching him closely and I'm sure some Rangers fans will disagree but I really think that Brad Richards is overrated as a playmaker and underrated as a scorer. He makes a lot of nice passes and is probably the best passer on the Rangers but that's not saying much. He actually has a nice shot.
he does have a great shot but i think we are seing him take the shot more because whos is he really gonna pass to (he wasnt playing with gab for most of the season and you have to give him some credit for almost making cally a 30 goal scorer) i feel richie is just an overall good player
