I look forward to participating actively in the 2012 Double-A Draft at double-picks-per-day for 12 days if you get done the AAA 2012 draft in time before the year ends.

I have been researching dozens of books this year and - like years past - have lots to contribute to the ATD subboard (MOD).

2011 had been the best year to date on this board. If in 2012 we don't get in a Double-A draft (hence no chance of a Single-A draft either) then maybe next year a full compliment of drafts and a burgeoning database of player bios can be assembled.

Long live our memories of hockey at its best throughout history!

I think a AA draft can be done, but I have no interest in pushing one through just for the sake of drafting. Making two picks per day for 12 days is just not fun.

Mini ATD For Fun

Anyone interested in doing a 4-team mini-ATD for fun? It would be very simple...no trades, no playoffs, no bios, just a 4 team draft, then post the lineups anonymously and see what the rest of the ATD community thinks.

4-man because that way each team gets one of "the big 4" and the low number of people will move things along quickly.

Easiest way to do it would be through an email chain. I would like to have the whole draft done in about a week's time, so participants need to be able to check-in multiple times a day and/or leave lists.

PM me if you're interested.

If anyone else has work software at the bottom of the screen that covers up Firefox's search, try Google Chrome. The search is at the top of the page and makes ATD work much less frustrating for me.

I use Chrome because it generally uses less memory than Firefox, and I am one of those people who loves having many windows open at once.

Agreed. Also, side by side windows are always useful in the ATD for comparing lists or players. I thought I was Firefox for life, but have had much less problems with Chrome. IE9 is fast, but most viruses are written for it.

First intermission right now in the Canada-Finland exhibition game of the 2013 World Junior ice hockey championships.

More speed, passing and hitting in this game than in any of the dozen KHL games I've watched this season!

Check. It. Out.

Major League Baseball only returned to glory in 1998 after Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa's chase on baseball's historic single season home run record. That helped MLB make people forget about their labour troubles of the past. The chase brought casual fans back to ball parks in droves. The game and it's great history were celebrated. Forget about the hindsight of the steroid era. At that time there was no bigger story - it even transcended the sports world. It was the best possible news baseball could have ever had hoped for.

I was going to write the same thing comparing this to hockey's lockout before I read Pelletier's article. Baseball is the the #2 sport in the US and it took years, looking the other way about PED's, juicing the baseball, and allowing new bats to bring the fans back after 1 lost season. The NHL was not 1 of the top 6 sports in the US (MLB, pro and college football, pro and college basketball, and Nascar) before the 2nd lockout in 8 years. After Chicago and LA won Cups, I had dreams hockey could become a top 6 sport in the US. Not anymore. I'm sure there are at least 9 million hard core fans in the US, but it's just not enough for the country where most of the NHL teams are located.

Me personally? I'm not upset. I have the NHL network, my local AHL team, my hockey history books, the HoH, the ATD, etc. I'm happy, but I wonder how many fans like me are supporting their local AHL team by going to games and watching the NHL network and not really missing the NHL. If I was a 34 year old kid I'd say "You're not a real fan." Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe there are other ways of enjoying hockey. I just thought I'd share a different non-upset perspective on the lockout. Merry Christmas and God Bless you all.

Finland over USA 1-0 in the first period. Seth Jones looks good, Trouba too, and Leino on the leading goal,... both NHL drafted goalies as well doing well enough....

If you're around, click the link wherever in the world you are, and watch the 2nd and 3rd period on this great TSN link online. (It's the 1st intermission at the moment)

I started a thread on the World Juniors Board before the tourney started asking posters to post their predictions of Gold/Silver/Bronze and nearly 100 posters predicted wrongly.... NONE, nobody guessed right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all sucked!

Gold: USA
Silver: Sweden (defending champion)
Bronze: Russia (host country)

We have the ATD 2013 AND 2013 NHL playoffs to look forward to! It will be a good year!

(Next winter is the Olympics too!)

No problem with NHL hockey for 8-10 years, at least until 2021. I will be attending the 2018 Olympics (here in Pyeongchang, South Korea) at age 48 (gawd I'll be old, getting up there).

How many of them had Canada coming home without a medal of any color?

I'm really happy there will be a playoffs. It's going to take me awhile to care about the regular season.
