Kessel yes he is underrated.

Phaneuf was viewed as trash well before he was in Toronto. You just didn't notice it then...

Gionta - See way too many posts calling him overpaid

David Desharnais - Gets barely any credit for how his line did this year, all the credit is given to Pacioretty and Cole.

Agreed. Everyone says his value is low because of his contract and the low amount of teams needing a goalie. It has nothing to do with his ability.

I myself love Luongo. A true franchise goalie who's fantastic. But you know what? His value IS very low. That's a bad contract that's going to scare most teams away.

On hf for the Canucks it's the Sedins.

They're absolutely elite, but are treated on hf as if they're soft, overrated, diving pansies.

Some truth to this. He has played through some different injuries and granted had some consistency issues. His ceiling is more than a 60pt player, one of these years he is going to put it all together again imo.

For the Rangers, I'd have to say Dan Girardi. It seems that all the credit of the success of the defense went to McDonagh.

I think Tanguay for the Flames more than anyone else. One injury-filled season in Montreal, one season with personal problems in Tampa and he became 'forgotten' about. One of the more skilled passers in the game, and great on the shootout. Good on the PP and the PK.

Nobody ever talks about Tanguay any longer, but he is still a great player.

Probably Justin Williams on the Kings, quietly put up 22 goals and 59 points on an awful Kings offense, also had 15 points through the playoffs.

For the Sharks, I'm going with M.E. Vlasic. The fact that he's not mentioned as one of the top 10 shutdown defensemen in this league speaks for itself.

Bryzgalov and Carle, while he was still with the Flyers.

For the Sens

By HF:
Gonchar, has been an asset in our top 4 the past two seasons and has not been a defensive liability like a lot of HF seems to think. Really hope he comes back from Russia when the lockout is over.
Turris, kid was on a 50 point pace in the 49 games he played with the Sens, and he plays a very responsible two-way game. Did a good job as the center behind Spezza, could develop into one of the better 2nd line centers in the league.

By our fanbase:
Michalek, guy quietly scored 35 goals last year and brings a solid two-way game with speed. Most of our fanbase doesn't regard him as a key piece on this team moving forward, and a lot of them think he's more of a 2nd line forward.
Kuba, put up 32 points playing PP and PK and was a real steady piece on the backend and a great partner for Karlsson. Now that he's gone most sens fans act like he was garbage.

Jack Johnson in my opinion for the Jackets.

The way he played last year after we acquired him was basically ~30 minutes a night and doing quite well defensively as well as offensively.

Marian Gaborik gets way too much flack for a top 5 goal scorer.

On all of HF I'll say Marian Gaborik.

On just the Rangers boards, Ryan Callahan. Nobody seems to like him anymore since the playoffs. I guess cause he didn't score 50 goals in 20 games or something.

The fact that Brian Burke didn't give up any major prospects, draft picks or 1st line players he should be given a lot of credit for the package that got Phaneuf to Toronto. It's not Phaneuf's fault what he was traded for and I bet if any other team made the same deal with the same type of players, people on here would give Phaneuf a lot more credit as being a great Defensman.

I think Vanek is criminally underrated around here. 32G average for his career and hasn't had a 1C to play with since Briere. Also, Tyler Myers. He is going to be a top 5 D-man in a couple years, make my words Julian.

Edit: I'm not sure if Grigs counts, but he's up to 43pts (23g 20a) in 23 games this season.

I'd say carl gunnerson for the leafs, doesn't ever notice him so people never think about him.

Some people might say that's a good thing because he doesn't make many mistakes, because if he didn't play well people would talk about that a lot more.

Anaheim: Ryan Getzlaf

Many people have passed him off as trash after a bad season where he only had 57 or so points, which really isn't THAT bad, but not very good for a player like Getzlaf.

Agree, especially on Vanek. Dude is 7th in the league in goal scoring over the past 7 seasons. Until he ran into injury trouble last year, he was on pace to pot around 40. This with Lindy Ruff only giving him ~15 minutes of ES ice time a game.
I'm less certain about Myers' future than you seem to be, but I do have a hard time believing he won't be a top 20-30 defenseman in the NHL even if he doesn't quite hit his ceiling and become an elite/franchise player.

When they start cycling in the Oilers end it is a clinic on how the game should be played in the offensive zone, I hope that our kids are taking notes.
