Tue Nov 20 - Lockout Results

Both games today were decided by shootout:
  • Ennis finished even with 1 G, 4 SOG in SCL's 3-2 SOW versus Biel and Patrick Kane. He was credited with the tip on SCL's first goal and scored twice in the shootout; also was on the ice for Kane's tally; highlights can be viewed HERE where he's #63 in red/yellow.
  • Myers finished -3 with 1 A in Klagenfurt's 5-4 SOL to Medvescak Zagreb and Dustin Jeffrey. He was on the ice for KAC's third goal; his assist came on KAC's fourth goal; also was on the ice for Zagreb's first, second and fourth goals; highlights can be viewed HERE where he's #57 in red.

Wed Nov 21 - Lockout Results

Two players were scheduled for action on Wednesday:I'll speculate that Sekera left the game in the second period with an injury of some sort; none of the recaps I read made mention of it though. I think it's less likely he was benched, seeing that he was getting top minutes in recent games and only on the ice for the fourth goal.

EDIT: There are no games scheduled for Thursday. Whoops, there's one.

Woodhouse has done a great job with the individual recaps for each player; here's an overview by Bill Hoppe of the 8 Sabres in Europe:

Quote:
Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, Krefield Penguins, DEL, Germany

The German, a veteran of four DEL seasons prior to coming to North America in 2003, has eight goals, 14 points, 22 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in 18 games. Ehrhoff has the type of gaudy numbers one might expect an elite NHL defender to have in a lesser league.

Center Tyler Ennis, SCL Tigers, National League A, Switzerland

Ennis, who ended last season scorching, has only two goals, six points and is a minus-6 in eight games. A shoulder injury recently sidelined him several contests, a team spokesman said.

Goalie Jhonas Enroth, Altuma, Allsvenskan, Sweden

Enroth, who was so desperate to play he planned to tend goal for his friend’s Buffalo beer league team, has a 2.71 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in three games. He posted a 2.50 goals-against average and .888 save percentage in two earlier appearances with Huddinge IK, a low-level team in his native Sweden.

Defenseman Tyler Myers, Klagenfurter AC, Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, Austria

Based on his numbers, Myers hasn’t acclimated well to the larger ice surface. The 22-year-old, an elite defenseman at times over his three NHL seasons, has just one goal, five points, 24 penalty minutes and a minus-6 rating in 11 appearances.

Defenseman Andrej Sekera, Bratislava Slovana, KHL, Slovakia

Sekera has two goals, seven points, two penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in 13 games. The Slovak, a supreme skater, has occasionally looked capable of being a 40-point NHL defenseman. Perhaps he’s thriving on the larger European ice surface.

Defenseman Alexander Sulzer, Ingolstadt ERC, DEL, Germany

The German, a DEL veteran like Ehrhoff, his Sabres defense partner, has one goal, seven points, two penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating in nine games.

Winger Thomas Vanek, Graz 99ers, Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, Austria

Vanek, who recently returned home from his native Austria, finished with five goals, 15 points, four penalty minutes and a minus-3 rating in 11 games.

Defenseman Mike Weber, Lorenskog, Norway

Weber signed his deal last week and is expected to play soon
http://www.oleantimesherald.com/spor...9bb2963f4.html

It's a bit mystifying that Myers, who gained so much respect as a fluid and strong skater, is struggling on the bigger ice surfaces. It's also odd that Ennis, whose size is always challenged in NHL battles, isn't flourishing with the bigger rinks and less physical play.

Obviously, the increased space on the ice is being enjoyed by skaters like Ehrhoff, Sekera and Sulzer - probably because they grew up playing on it.

Weber had a decent debut for his Norwegian team, even if they lost (surprisingly to an injury plagued bottom feeder). Yoy can see him get beat pretty bad in a chase for the puck at the end of this video

If Myers put on another 15 pounds of muscle he has to work off over the course of the season again...

For what it's worth, the guy's pretty much spot on...

Myers is playing on a team that should be fighting for the top spot (has Gagner, Cogliano, Lundmark, Auld....), and they're struggling.

To not go too much into detail, yes, he's having trouble with the larger surface.
I also think he seemed surprised at how physical at least the Zagreb squad is (they met twice in 6 days, Zagreb won both matches).

just to add to what corto, he really seems to have problems with scrappy players. weird given his frame...

i do not watch a lot of KAC games but they are missing 10 players including, roughly, their 1C, their 1 line wingers and some important Ds. I think his numbers would be quite different with a healthy team (which should normally be quite dominant against most of their opponents in the EBEL).

is there any indication that maybe his wrist isn't 100% yet?

Is Pominville still in Buffalo? I'd like to see him playing, he's our best player.

Sat Nov 24 - Lockout Results

There were two games on Saturday:
  • Ennis finished -2 with 1 A, 6 SOG in SCL's 7-2 loss to Zug (featuring Henrik Zetterberg, Linus Omark, Damien Brunner, Raphael Diaz and Timo Helbling). He was on the ice for Zug's second and sixth goals; he assisted on SCL's first goal as he walked a puck to the net and tried to jam in a shot, his linemate would bury the rebound; highlights can be viewed HERE where he's #63 in red/yellow.
  • Weber finished even with 0 P, 1 SOG, 2 PIM (boarding) in Lørenskog's 2-1 win over Sparta Sarpsborg. Highlights can be viewed HERE where he's #6 in white.

Myers might be struggling at times, but Ennis really has no help on the worst NLA team. For comparison, Zetterberg plays with talent like Omark and Brunner while Ennis has Haas and McLean.

I know Vanek's done playing in Graz, but I just got this today and figured I'd share it here. I work in one of the US offices of an Austrian-based company, Jerich International (logos on the collar). Jerich sponsored and facilitated the signing of Vanek for the 11 games he played for the 99ers. Knowing I'm a huge hockey fan, my CEO brought this autographed jersey back to the States for me today and I was beyond thrilled.

Good gravy that is hideous. I really, truly hope the NHL, NFL and MLB never go with advertising on uniforms. To hell with the NBA.

NHLPA CHARITY GAME GOES OCTOBER 8TH @ WFCU CENTRE - November 28, 2012

Spitfires alumni Steve Ott, Shawn Horcoff, Dan Cleary and many more NHL veterans hit the WFCU Centre ice Saturday, December 8th in support of the treatment of childhood cancer at Met Hospital.

OTT AND FRIENDS HOSTING CHARITY HOCKEY GAME -
Proceeds to "Sparkle From Above", treating childhood cancer at Met Hospital -

Dave Ducharme WindsorSpitfires.com

For much of the current NHL labour disruption, Buffalo Sabres forward Steve Ott has been skating in Troy, Michigan with buddies Shawn Horcoff of the Edmonton Oilers and Dan Cleary of the Detroit Red Wings, among other NHLers looking to stay in shape.

Ott, the Spitfire alumni and now nine-year NHL veteran, says recently the topic turned to calling some guys to see about a charity game in Windsor. "Once the word got out," Ott began, on the phone from Arizona, "it was pretty obvious there were a lot of guys who wanted to play."

The scheduled participant list includes some 36 pros; including Sabres Thomas Vanek, Drew Stafford (LS: Matt Ellis and Jordan Leopold) Red Wings Johan Franzen, Todd Bertuzzi, Jimmy Howard and Darren Helm, and Oilers Tom Gilbert and Nick Schultz - along with local boys Kyle Wellwood, Kevin Westgarth, Michael Leighton and Ryan Wilson.

Mannheim currently sits in 1st in the DEL. They feature fellow NHL'ers Dennis Seidenberg and Marcel Goc, as well as old friend Doug Janik.
