Is Drouin even in the game? I know Pulock starts at a 75 OVR with 4.5* potential out of the draft.

I'd say about 95% of the time I end up getting the best player in the draft doing it that way.

After the first round, I write the top 5/10 players that I may want to try and get, the team they were drafted by, overall out of the draft, and potential. I'll hand pick the first 3 round, any after that I trade the picks away for the next season. For the players I write down, I usually follow them for 5-6 seasons or until they hit their ceiling.

People think i'm an idiot for only doing the draft/free agency/trades and that stuff.. I'll play the first game of the season so I can personally get my rookies their first NHL goal.. and if I see that a player is about to break a record, i'll play the game to make sure he gets it. Other than that, the way I see it is that the mode is called Be a GM for a reason.. to BE A GM.
I see where you're coming from, but if you want to play GM only there are waaay better alternatives than EA's NHL games. I play the EA titles because they let me be a GM AND take the ice with the teams I build.

If the games are too easy crank up the difficulty sliders and if they're maxed out start skewing the other sliders towards the CPU.

NOt sure about those rosters you downloaded, but in my GM it's 2018 and both Pulock (Edm) and Monahan (Min) are Allstars for a few years now. 85-88 OA.
I have Barkov, and he is my 13th forward. An 80, +/- 1 can't remember.

I've noticed this too. You can have a guy in the center position for 5 years (and he's listed as a center)...yet he will never improve his faceoffs even if he is 90 overall. Really annoying as I think it's an important stat for centers when simming.

Playoffs I generally play more of... certain teams I'll play every game against, and usually will for the cup. Others I'll do a 1-1 play/sim rotation.
Im the same way. I hardly do any trades at all, and when I do, its them offering me a draft pick or two for either an aging player or a few 2.5star prospects.
The other day Pittsburgh offered me Crosby, who at that point was mid-30s. I rejected the trade without hesitation and the others thought I was insane! Pittsburgh wanted the guy I picked last year at 11th overall (67ovr 4star), my 1st in this years draft and a nobody player.
My first thought was that Crosby is a center, I already have MacKinnon and McDavid for my first two centers.. theyve put up consecutive 90+ point seasons, why change that?

I know im the GM and im supposed to want to be the best.. but I prefer losing in the playoffs. I know my team could win the cup every season if I let them, but I dont. It gets so boring winning the cup EVERY year, so after I win one or two I make my team lose within the first two rounds to change things up. It gives me a better draft pick and makes it more exciting to see who will win. 90% of the time its the team who eliminated me. I also like to think of the fans of the other teams who must be losing hope and interest if I keep winning.

In my current GM, I drafted both Monahan and Barkov. Monahan maxed out at 79 overall after I played him top line minutes in the AHL for like 5 years. Barkov got up to an 82 overall(playing on the third line) but I traded him away, I think he got up to 84-85ish on his new team. Pulock hits 87 in most of my GM modes.

Speaking about centers and faceoffs, is it just me or do the guys in the drafts in later years never have over 70 overall in faceoffs? And their faceoff rating never improves either.

^ A bit annoyed to hear about the faceoff issues. NHL 12 was the opposite, if a player had good defensive potential then he was guaranteed to also be a great faceoff taker regardless of position, so 10 years into the game they completely dominate the real players at the dot.

If you're a GM junkie definitively download EHM (Eastside Hockey Manager), it has incredible depth and has a community that constantly updates rosters; you can also coach games if you want to.

I believe this is the website; it should have all resources you need

I had Kujawinski and he had 99 in all his shooting and defensive stats

Any guesses what is chances to get either one Kane or Toews from FA Market as Blackhawks has 23M cap space for season 2015-16?

I hate how high the salary cap goes s high, I'm in year 19 and it's at 107 million(with a 91 million floor). Most players still ask for about the same amount of money except for goalie(8+ million for a starter) and top 6 D(up to 5 million for D anywhere from 78-82). And for that reason there is never good players in the free agency, the best are usually 83-84 overalls.

So I'm questioning a full rebuild in my New Jersey Profile. I'm in the second year and have stacked on prospects from the 2013 draft.

Here is the lineup for 2013-2014 (subject to change if I'm rebuilding):

Kovalchuk (90)- Zajac (84)- Henrique (80)
Penner (80)- Elias (83)- Clarkson (80)
Osala (79)- Brule (79)- Zubrus (79)
Holloway (77)- Handzus (80)- McClement (78)

Del Zotto (84)- Larsson (84)
Morrow (74)- Volchenkov (82)
Lowe (70)- Urbom (72)

Engren (77)
Burke (68)

Top Prospects:

Alex Galchenyuk 4.5 stars
Josh Morrissey 4.5 stars
Bolton Pouliot 4.5 stars
Damon Severson 4 stars
Joe Morrow 4 stars
Brett Bulmer 3.5 stars
Alex Gudbranson 3.5 stars
Martin Frk 3.5 stars
Alxander Barkov 3.5 stars
Ivan Skvortsov 3.5 stars

That sucks. In '12 the problem was a bit the other way around, deep in the Dynasty you'd have to dish out $12-15 million on your best players if you wanted to retain them.

Of course in this game Backes, Hemsky, Wheeler, etc... are all 84 OVR players so it isn't that bad.

Kane is a free agent every time that I have seen.

After 16 seasons with the Senators, winning 7 cups, I changed to Pittsburgh. Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Fleury all had retired in the previous 2-3 years so I thought to do a rebuild with them. For some reason doing a rebuild that late in a GM mode is hard as hell, only 1st round picks will turn out in 1-3 years, 2nd round and third round will usually take 4-5 years and anything else won't turn out. So that and the fact that there are never good free agents available make it damn near impossible to build a team from scratch.

He was drafted in the 8th round though. check the draft listings, one team got a compensary pick moving what should have been 7th round 180 to 8th round 181

Does anyone think some of the players that end up in the All-star games don't belong there?
In my GM mode for ex.
(Both are in the same conference.)
Kris Versteeg - 48gp 16g, 21a, 37pts. 10pims, he's a -3, 6 ppg, 0shg, 1gwg and 37 hits.
Stamkos - 53gp 27g, 22a, 49pts. 16pims, he's a +8, 5ppg, 1shg, 7gwg and 33 hits.

Stamkos also has a higher shooting % and faceoff win %, and they both have 11 more takeaways than giveaways.

Versteeg is on the third line, Stamkos is left off the team???

It was still a 7th round pick.

When a team doesn't sign a 1st round pick, they get a 2nd round pick at the same position. In the case of this year's draft, San Jose had traded Ehrhoff to Vancouver for Patrick White (a former 25th overall pick) who didn't get signed, so San Jose received the 55th overall pick as compensation.

Round 1 - 30 picks
Round 2 - 31 picks
Round 3 - 30 picks
Round 4 - 30 picks
Round 5 - 30 picks
Round 6 - 30 picks
Round 7 - 30 picks

Total - 211 picks

Regardless, this is an extremely superficial issue with the game.

Every team must have at least 1 representative, so sometimes more deserving players are left off.

I forget what patch it was, but after one of them, players didn't ask for nearly enough in NHL 12. I'd often be forced to pay a guy league maximum for 1 year just to make the cap floor afterwards.

The star potential really makes GM Mode boring for me... Way too predictable and scripted.
