Toronto/Washington

Ovechkin and Backstrom kidnap Leo Komarov and bring him to DC with his hands and feet tied.

Caps send Michal Neuvirth and Garrett Mitchell (sorry to type his name) to TO,
Toronto sends Leo (or rather rights to Leo) and James "The Savior" Reimer.

Don't forget, you can't decline, Komarov is already in DC

Toronto says no. And Leo is currently on loan to the KHL so he has a legitimate contract with the Leafs.

I know, I was kidding, but if lockout doesn't end til next season, he's an RFA. And from what I've read it's clear that if he doesn't make the Leafs roster this season, he'll be gone. Dynamo is a frontrunner but I think he'll like playing with Ovi and Nick so he'll give his NHL career one more shot.

The deal for me could probably work, But I'd want a different prospect.

Neuvrith hasn't proven he's that special to give up Reimer + for.

Don't want to play the tough guy, but you can swap the names' places and it will work, too. Reimer hasn't proven it.
Neuvirth has (slightly, very slightly) higher NHL career Sv%, 4 wins more in 1 less game played. Same age. I'm jumping all over it if I'm the Leafs. I wouldn't do the trade if Neuvy wasn't this stupid talking to the media.

Komarov on Washington would certainly be a great fit. He's literally a hybrid of both the needs and wants of a team.

He's a Russian, first and foremost and would inevitably fit in with fellow Russians Dmitri Orlov (Evgeny Kuznetsov one day) and obviously, Alexander Ovechkin, who is in the same age bracket.

But more importantly, he plays a North American hard-nosed style of game that the Capitals have been transitioning towards over the past couple of seasons. He would be an impact player playing on the bottom 6 of the Capitals and would definitely be a fan favorite.

I would argue that Neuvirth and Reimer have practically the same value -- both playing one great half-season in 10/11 followed up by a sub-par 11/12 campaign mired by inconsistency.

I'm not sure a Garrett Mitchell for Leo Komarov swap on the other hand is even. Mitchell is still very raw and 21, and still a few years away from a permanent bottom 6 roster spot on an NHL squad. Komarov on the other hand is already 25, and as a result, I really have no doubt he will be an effective bottom 6 energy guy who provides hits, agitation, speed and some offensive flare by the time the next NHL season (12/13 or 13/14) rolls around.

In sum, if this deal were to occur the Caps would likely add a better prospect instead of Mitchell.

Ehh, it's not bad, not great, therefore not really worth doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if McPhee is done bringing Russians into the organization for a while.

Komarov is half Russian, half Finnish, born in Estonia and his native language is Swedish. So... I don't think it's the valid argument. Also, McPhee drafted a Russian (Kostenko) last spring. I think we're done with the Czechs though.

Thanks for your input. I'm of higher opinion on Mitch to be honest... I think he'll be NHL-ready as soon as next summer. But what if Caps send Galiev or Caleb Herbert or maybe even Joel Ward instead of Mitch?

What if we just gave you Leo Komarov for a 3rd?

I'd do it from the caps side.... Don't know if Michael Nuevirth is the answer to Torontos goaltending situation..

Why wouldn't you just keep Reimer and go with Scrivens as the back up?

Done. But we want to get rid of Neuvirth anyway and I thought Toronto could be interested.

Only if it's a top prospect or a first round pick and I'm not sure about the first round pick.

Reimer/Scrivens + Komarov for Neuvrith + Schultz

I'd be happy with that.

Can we add something like Galiev and a 2nd and also get Gunnarsson back? Toronto has a ton of D who seem to be close to graduating

Leafs 1st rounder could be top 10... Brouwer is extremely replaceable. Are you sure you're not sure?

He's very much not replaceable, sad as that is.

Top 10 in hits in the league, decent size, capable of dropping the gloves and keeping up with top 6 players without killing the line (too much). Without him we are ridiculously soft. He's no Lucic but there aren't many players like him and they very much have roles to fill.

That said, I'd do a top 10 pick without hesitation but after that would have to see who's on the board.
