Zenyatta's Sister Eblouissante Wins Debut

That's half sister actually.
Still a great story.

Quote:
Racing fans had better start learning how to pronounce the name Eblouissante, as the 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini did her best impression of her big sister Zenyatta, sweeping to the lead and drawing off to an easy 4 1/4-length victory in her long-awaited career debut at Betfair Hollywood Park Nov. 16

Looks like a higher motor than Zenyatta, although that might be because Zenyatta is so big that she was effective wearing you down.

A tribute to this weeks Cigar Mile Gr1 Aqueduct.

Cigar's career.
http://www1.drf.com/hcponline/samples/269.pdf

An amazing run of the likes I've never seen.
16 in a row, including 10 Gr1's.
Finished just $185 shy of $10,000,000.

They probably knew he was sterile keeping him on the track so long.
Would've been a great sire. His best distance was always 1 mile.
Interesting how they kept him on the turf so long, where he won basically nothing.

I didn't realize Julie Krone rode Cigar for one race. And his streak ended to a 39-1 shot, Dare and Go.

I think I was at this race with my grandpa. It was right after I got my license so I would swing by and pick him up and we would go to Del Mar. He used to call me the Del Mar Express cause I could get from his house in South OC to the track in 45 minutes. Ah, the days of no traffic on the way to SD.

Awesome. I probably would have played a $2 win ticket on Cigar as a momento of witnessing history. Then crumpled it after watching the race.

A 60th race and a win! That is impressive.

In fact, every fan should tip his cap to Caixa Electronica, who just wants to beat you, anywhere from six to nine furlongs and the stops in between.

In winning the G3 Fall Highweight Handicap beneath 133 pounds and Javier Castellano, he improved his lifetime mark to (60) 19-8-11.

What’s wrong with that stat? In this day and age, horses are not supposed to run 60 races, most often in top company, even as a 7 year-old.

His sire ran 78 times in 8 years, but was never a stakes winner I don't think. At least not in graded company

Stay Thirty nails even money Groupie Doll on the line in the Cigar Mile.
That was a masterful ride by Ramon Dominguez, as Stay Thirsty was trying to bear in the last eighth.

Breathtaking move comes up short in the Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct.

Todd's 2yr old Overanalyze got the money, but Normandy Invasion might be the horse to watch early next year. The later ran past horses like they were standing still to reach contention, only to lose the bob.

Those were two fun races. Dominguez finds a way to win them. Gotta love the "Normandy Invasion to the attack" call.

Hollywood, Nov. 25:

Quote:
Dayatthespa, who has won five in a row at three different tracks, will try to keep her streak alive in the $250,000 Matriarch Stakes on Sunday at Hollywood Park. The one-mile event for older fillies and mares is part of a Grade 1 grass doubleheader on the final day of the Turf Festival. The 10-race program also includes the $250,000 Hollywood Derby, which drew an overflow of 15 three-year-olds at 1 1/4 miles.

Wild stretch drive between Gentildonna and Orfevre. Gentildonna noses out Orfevre with a lot of bumping in the lane. TVG is saying JRA is pretty strict when it comes to fouls, but I think this is a DQ even in America.

Edit: No change at the top. Wow. I'm quite surprised by that.

Was there Super wagering and what was the payout? The last race (Sat.) at Aqueduct paid $106,000+ on a Super. Calder had a $111 winner with an $85k Super.

i missed the payouts, but it was over $500 for a win wager in Japan. I think it was a bit shorter over here.

They finally put the video up on youtube.

That was a great finish.
I think the best horse won as Orfevre had every chance the final sixteenth.
I totally disagree on DQ'ing the winner.
Gentildonna came out, but the rider of Orfevre had him come in, trying to close to hole, right at the point of attack.
I don't believe the bump had any affect on the eventual outcome.

And Unbridled Command may be headed to Florida, too for the Gulfstream Handicap in February.

http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/stor...ol-derby-recap

Quote:
Lewis G. Lakin's Unbridled Command circled the field on the far turn of Sunday's Grade 1, $250,000 Hollywood Derby and stormed clear down the stretch, putting an exclamation point on the Turf Festival and extending his winning streak to five. The Tom Bush trainee was an overlay in his first venture outside his home state of New York, leaving the gate as the 7-1 fourth choice, but turned a competitive-looking race into a one-sided affair.
Quote:
The streaking Unbridled Command has now bankrolled $469,040 from his 10-6-1-2 line. His only unplaced run came in his career debut on dirt last summer. Switched to the grass thereafter, he broke his maiden at Aqueduct last November. Unbridled Command took three tries to clear his entry-level allowance condition, checking that box at Belmont on June 23, and followed up with a victory in a second-level event at Saratoga August 1.

Making his stakes debut in the Grade 3 Saranac at the Spa on September 2, the gray rallied boldly to win by a half-length. Unbridled Command made it four in a row by crushing older New York-breds in the October 20 Mohawk at Belmont by 6 3/4 lengths, and now collected his first Grade 1 tilt here. As a son of Master Command, the strongly-made colt was entitled to improve with maturity and distance, and he promises to keep progressing.

"He likes to track on the turns," Bush said. "He just matures from race to race to race. I couldn't dream of a horse developing any nicer than this horse. He's really gotten special. He's going to fly to Palm Meadows tonight and we'll figure out his next race.''

Bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds and A. Lakin and Sons in the Empire State, Unbridled Command was sold for $28,000 as a two-year-old in training at OBS April. He is out of the unraced Unbridled's Song mare Unbridled Betty, who is a half-sister to stakes-winning stakes producers Tarage and Chartreuse. Another of her half-siblings, the winning Nureyev mare Astaire Step, produced multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Manistique. This is also the family of multiple Grade 2 victress Randaroo and Grade 1 queen Freedom Cry.

Their point was that Gentildonna came out way harder than Orfevre came in. And considering that she had another way around him, and the JRA is more strict than they are in America. I think he closed the hole enough as well that it was his spot.
