So my idea for running the Macbook emulator didn't work out great. Turns out that Airplay streaming over the wireless router has some lag. Yeah should have thought of that. Need an HDMI converter instead, that should work just fine.
But all the emulators are up and running and my kid immediately wanted to play Mario.
Oh and the PS3 controller is supported out of the box by OSX, but it won't pair up properly. I downloaded an aftermarket driver and it works, but then I have to re-sync it to my PS3...might just pick up a Logitech wireless or something.

So my laptop totally crapped out on me again. Don't think it's the hard drive this time but I can't even turn the thing on without it saying select proper boot device or something like that. My dad offered to buy me a brand new Mac as an early X-mas gift so I may just take him up on that offer given that my laptop is falling apart.

So...
You're complaining that you're getting a new laptop for free?
I remember when I was maybe 8 years old...saved up my money and went to funcoland. Actually many times because it was out of stock. But finally I got final fantasy for the Nintendo. It had the awesome manual with all the enemies in it and the map.
Ha funcoland...every time we would pass by there when I was younger (is it 35W that it's on?) I would beg my parents to stop so I could go there. I think it's a gamestop now.

Perhaps, but it pisses me off that a laptop I bought with my own money is falling apart and has failed me twice in just a period of about 6 months. If I do indeed get rid of it, I will have had it for only a year and a half, which is pretty crappy. Never again Dell, never again.

Gamestop bought Funcoland, so that would make sense.
Also, got a Vita, really liking it so far. The integration between the PS3 and Vita is pretty cool, and I don't even mean cross-play.

I dunno if Apple is still running their black Friday specials or not but they had some deals.
Check the clearance Macs too, that's where I've bought all of my Macs. Save a couple hundred and get free shipping.
Finished the campaign on Black Ops 2 the other night.....I highly recommend.
Those of you who say your are CoD'd out, but may still have interest in the campaign, I suggest finding a used copy or renting it for a week when the price is right.
I will be playing the campaign again at least 2-3 more times, and not just to get all the challenges/achievements, but just to see all the possible situations/different outcomes you can get into.
This is not your average CoD campaign, it has a bunch of new features. As I played the Modern Warfare campaigns, I loved their story line. This one has a good story line (maybe not great, but good) and the added choices you can make as you go through it are very interesting. Plus you really grow to absolutely despise the bad guy, which makes the end of the game so interesting as well.
I'm doing my best to say all this without giving much away, since I personally prefer to be taken by surprise.
Unfortunately the Multi-Player has just been OK so far. There are 1-2 maps that are good, a few that are OK, and a number that are downright no fun....looks like I'll actually be spending money to download new map packs when they become available.
In the event that I can't get my laptop fixed for a reasonable price or that it would take far too long to fix, what laptop would you fellow HFers suggest I look into? I was thinking Macbook but I really should look at other brands as well rather than commit to Apple right off the bat.
A few general things I'd be looking for in a new laptop:
Durable as I carry it from my dorm to classes, the library, home, etc.
Not be too prone to viruses. I'm sure it depends mostly on the sites I visit and what system I run but if some laptops are less prone to viruses than others I'd like to know.
Run all Microsoft Office applications (Work, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.) although I'm betting all laptops can do this.
Relatively light, I don't want to be carrying around a big clunker of a thing.
At least a 13" screen.
Under $1400
I don't plan on doing any gaming on it or storing a lot of stuff on it so I don't think memory space is going to be an issue.
Things like Processors and internal components I can't really comment on since I really have no idea what all of them do or which ones are best.
As I said above I'm thinking Macbook but I've heard good things about Sony and Lenovo as well but I'm open to all brands EXCEPT DELL.
Max Payne 3 is awesome. Great campaign. And its long, too. Have to go through it twice to catch some of the story. Pretty damn great game. Very cinematic.
