That's what this thread boils down to.

Talking 7m on a random team 5m on your favorite, maybe. But this is flat out ridiculous.

I would take a paycut to play for my favourite team but not a 6-7 million cut. I've got a family and as much as I'd love to say money doesn't matter to me, we live in a world where it really does.

I'll take my money. I'd take a hometown discount, but not all the way down to the league minimum.

And this is definitely not how it works in real life. People here think as hockey fans. Boys who worked insanely hard to get in the NHL take decisions as professional athletes.
Their favorite team turn often to be the one they're playing for. I'm sure that in the 1st place, an athlete wants to be loyal to the GM who just drafted/signed him.
Another thing, Players are paid a lot of money because they're playing in a world class league that generates also immense profits.

Aging players take less money to go hometown sometimes but it's slight paycuts, nothing less.

I would give my fav team a discount but definately not league minimum, I'd rather play in buffalo for 6.5 mil than columbus for 7.5 mil

Money. I'd take a pay cut to pay for my favorite team, but minimum wage? **** no.

probably I'd puke a little bit in my mouth but I'd take the money even if it was from the Rangers/Flyers/Capitals. who in their right mind would play for 500k if they were a top 10 player in the league?

To the people saying "500,000 is enough for me," if you are not going to take the other 7 mil or so then someone else will. If you really wanted to be a nice
guy, you take the 7 mil and donate a few mil to charities.
