Other. Mark Jankowski.
Come on man this should be a no brainer. There shouldn't be so many options.

Is how it should start. No question in my mind.
Can you please post the entire draft order?

Can't take Crosby #1. He missed too many games last year to warrant that. The Pens might play safe with him and "shut him down" for a few games.
I'd go with H. Sedin.

Yes if your a fan who cares about nice stats, GMs whose priority is winning would pick:
Quick
Lundqvist
Rinne

I would take Stamkos. Best scorer in the league.

Goaltending is huge, don't get me wrong, and anyone who doesn't pick a goalie in the first round should take a goalie in the second.
But Crosby vs Quick? I'd rather have Crosby + Lehtonen/Howard/some other second round goalie than Quick + Jamie Benn or something.

Malkin. I'd be hesitant to take Crosby 1st overall due to injury. I'd take Crosby only if Malkin, Giroux, and Stamkos were gone.

Crosby + Howard is good for stats but an elite goalie is good for winning playoff series

If Crosby didn't have health concerns this would be a no brainer. A good blueline can make both your forwards and your goalie look much better than they actually are, so I'm taking a defender. Has to be a young guy obviously, as he'll be the cornerstone of my franchise for the next 15 years hopefully, and one with the attitude/character you want your team to embody.
I'm going to go a bit off the board here and take Pietrangelo. One of the smartest players in the league already, great character to build around, awesome shutdown game, PPQB, and scored at a 75pt/82game pace in 2012.
Would take a center next, goalie in the 3rd round, and another center in the 4th, before filling out the roster with BPA's.

Can we post rules to this fantasy draft? Is this a single season sort of deal? How are stats weighted?
Or is this a redistribution of talent in the NHL sort of deal?

This is a redistribution of talent in the NHL sort of deal. All the players are placed into a pool and the GM builds their team from scratch. There aren't really any stats since the goal is to win the Stanley Cup.

would have went with Crosby even despite his health concerns because of the financial benefits of having Crosby
but since you explicitly said the goal is winning I chose to ignore the financial benefits of having Crosby and go with Malkin

Malkin is almost as good as Crosby, and doesn't have concussion problems. I pick him.
