They aren't a bad team though. They are 4th in the conference.

The goals for look below average the goals against better than average but neither jumps out good or bad.

my pick was Trouba, but i'm not unhappy with Dumba yet. Could be the Brent Burns effect. I didn't think he could have been a stand-alone defensemen in the same vein as Trouba but with the right partner Dumba can be more effective offensively and still not be that much of a liability on D. If you put him with Genoway or something you're going to get scored on an awful lot.

Yup. We're looking into offensive stats too much, when hes becoming a more well-rounded player.

With a negative goal differential.

Which means they are likely outperforming their talent and winning close games.

What I'd HOPE is that Dumba can't make his poor offensive players score but he's doing a great job in his end. HOPE. Can't really read that through stats though, which is why I'm hoping for some scouting reports.

I think the few that we have gotten from others has said that he has buttoned up in his defensive zone.

If they're not a bad team, they're an awful team. They are the third lowest scoring team in the league. They are one of the best teams defensively in the league, but still have a negative goal differential. Take away their last 5 games (and they've played the most games in the league right now) and they have a losing record while sitting 6th or 7th out of 12 in points earned per game.

They've lost 6 games by 3 goals or more. Including an 8-1 trouncing by Kelowna that seemed to start their current streak. They've won 2 games by 3 or more. Both of those coming in this 5 game win streak.

Well that's just bad news for Dumba then if they hang around and he doesn't get traded to a contender.

So the consensus is he's what, above average defensively then? For his age and his team?

I'd still like to see him score more. From his stats it would appear all he does is hang around for a shelling and jump off the ice.

Consensus is he is far above average defensively. And definitely for his age. He is still young. He could play another two years in the CHL. Although, I doubt it.

I'd love to see him put up some better offensive numbers.

From what I've managed to gather from other posters on the board, he's been exceeding most people's expectations for his defensive play. Pressing further to see if that's an issue of great defensive play or low expectations, it's seems to be a bit of both. He's no Brodin in his own end, but it seems he's well above average for a CHL defenseman by most evaluations.

Well, unless he makes the big club next season, he'll be back in the CHL at least one more year.

Dumba's shot impresses me because he knows how to get the puck to the net. That, coupled with his hitting and puck rushing ability, will get him some time in the NHL. I think he'll be a great Dman for us, but he'll be just one part of a top-4 Dman core.

Trouba, on the other hand, if he puts everything together, could be #1 Dman. I don't think Dumba has that potential.

I wonder where he stands on the Canadian WJC list? so far most posters i've seen have "penciled" in their predictions, most people have dumba off the roster.

its clear his team cannot score, i still think he gets traded at the deadline, he'd bring in too much in return to a team looking to rebuild.

I could see him as a third pairing or 7th defenseman.

I've seen Dumba put anywhere from #3 to off the roster for the WJC. Seems the best bet is to assume he makes the team though. At the very least he should get an invite to evaluation camp.

Shows how much I know. I think he'll at least get in as an extra defender then.

Murray (as in, the second overall pick in 2012) is injured. Murphy (as in the 12th overall pick in 2011) is not injured to my knowledge.

Are Derrick Pouliot and Duncan Siemens eligible? If so, I'd rather have one of them on my WJC bottom-pairing over Harrington.

I'm sure this kid will turn out fine. Leave him in juniors, then AHL for a couple seasons. Bring him up as a solid 22- 24 year old, instead of rushing him as a 20 or 21 year old for example

I've watched about five Red Deer Games earlier this season and Dumba has looked alright. He's got great speed and knows when/ how hard to shoot. I don't think he's been getting the 30+ minute games he was last year or so it seemed. Kinda seems like he went from a run-n-gun style to trying to reel it in and be a defensive force. Which is working. Showing two sides to his game while still leading is team in scoring from the blueline.

As for the WJC Canada is loaded on the back end more then anywhere else. Its going to be hard to earn a spot. That being said, Hockey Canada seems to LOVE Dumba. I think he's a lock due to the fact that HC thinks highly of the style he brings. At the same time, if he misses the team I don't think I'd be surprised its a good defence for Team Canada this year.
