OT: Trip to Toronto

Me and my buddy are attending the Alexisonfire show at The Sound Academy on the 28th of December. We plan on leaving the morning of the 27th and leaving the 29th.

I would appreciate it if anyone that knows where this venue is can refer me to some cheap-ish but nicer hotels and some rad places to get some drinks/food. Thanks in advance.

See you at the show buddy. The venue is just off the Lakeshore with a great view of the whole city skyline. It's a five minute cab ride basically to the downtown core so you're good to grab a hotel anywhere and you'll be fine. I'm from an hour outside of the city so I can't really answer any good places to head before the show for some drinks. Sorry bud.

Couple decent hotels that are reasonably priced in good locations:

Residence Inn Toronto Centre
Strathcona Hotel
Novotel Toronto Centre

Have stayed at all 3 on one off nights when I've hit up a concert etc. and gone out to the bars after. You pay slightly more to stay in the core area, but once you factor in cabs etc. you're not sacrificing much.

Awesome man. I've been listening to AOF since 2002. Sad to see them go but stoked to finally visit Toronto and see them again.

Thanks alot. I looked through some of them and $125 is certainly reasonably priced.

You might want to check out the beer bistro (www.beerbistro.com) if you are into beer and a gourmet spin on every day foods. It's one of my favourite places to visit when I'm in the city. Great food quality and selection, especially if you have a developed appreciation for beer.

I agree with Sneaky Dee's, great nachos and atmosphere. I'd also suggest C'est What on Front. It's a nice basement pub with a nice selection of beer.

The Horseshoe Tavern or the Cameron House (both on Queen) are pretty great for a beer and an intimate show (I like the set up and acts at the Cameron House better).

Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn't care what hotel I stayed at cause I would be way to messed up to even know where I'm sleeping anyways.

But, if you get a chance, take a look at the Steamwhistle Brewery tour. Not sure if it will be open during the holidays though, so you might be out of luck.

Yeah I really don't care. As long as they're no cockroaches or dead hookers, I'll be alright. I would prefer to get one close(r) to downtown, though.

That's funny. Those were some of my favorite haunts 25 years ago. Saw cowboy junkies in the basement of Sneaky Dees when it was on Bloor. Do they still have bands?

Yep, bands play in the upper floor of Sneaky Dee's, but I haven't seen any of them. It seems a lot of the bands are hardcore punk (judging by the people lining up and the posters).

It is out of the way, and kind of difficult to get to.

I was at Sound Academy the other night for Gaslight Anthem and yeah, I always hate going to that venue. It's not even that great of a venue to begin with.

And to add on to the fact that it's super cold because of the location, the coat check at the end of the night took almost an hour because the line was so long. Immediately followed by traffic. If you're taking the bus there, I feel bad for you becasue there's only one stop and you have to walk there and after a concert the line is usually ridiculous.
