Realistically, probably only Crosby and Malkin are bulletproof at this point

Letang is close, but I could see him moving for a good return.

Crosby and Letang are locks. If Malkin doesn't sign a Crosby deal, he's gone.

Yes he is, just not for the reasons he thinks. He has a ridiculous contract over a long term, sucks under pressure, and Gillis wants a huge return for him. All of these make him untouchabe, not that any GM wants to.

Rick Na...

Dammit.

In reality, Jack Johnson, Vinny Prospal, and Ryan Murray. Also, anybody recently acquired is highly unlikely to be traded (Bobrovsky, Anisimov, Foligno, etc.)

For the Ducks I think it's Fowler, Selanne, and Etem. Though their (Fowler and Etem) "untradeable nature has gone down in my eyes based on the results of their progression so far. Not saying they're bad or they won't be good but I think maybe management expected a little more out of them thus far.

All im saying is fantasy trades aside (Crosby, Stamkos etc..), I can see alot of teams offering up enough to pry Elias out of Jersey. Kovalchuk Brodeur & Larsson I agree with.
Would Boston realistically give up Hamilton for Elias, though?
If the Devils had to add, would they have to add more than they can give up and remain competitive?
The same goes for most of the names on that list. That's why I question the reality of an Elias trade.

Most of those deals would have to be at the cost of the Devils going into rebuild mode.

So it's a combination of this:

Coupled with the fact that Lou can be foolishly loyal sometimes. There are some mindboggling contracts Lou has put out there for the sake of loyalty and some trades that have been passed over for the same reason.

It wouldn't surprise me if, over the duration of Elias' career, there have been quite a few potential trades turned down that would have fans of 29 other teams raging.

Geez.

Let's re-write the rules, your team can only keep 2 players, name them.

For me, it's not so much about being "untouchable" as it is about the realistic possibility of a player being traded.

As I was saying with Elias, you'll be hard pressed to find a team realistically willing to give what the Devils would need back to part ways. This is true of many players around the league.
Especially when you have a GM that values loyalty the way the Devils do.

Everybody on the Leafs is fair game.

I'd like to keep JVR and Gardiner, though.

Etem has been with us for all of two months. He's made significant progress during that time. I could swear that he got more ice time than Palmieri and Holland during the last game.

While I'm sure they would be happy if they had problem free starts to their careers, they are experienced enough with player development to know how unreasonable of an expectation that is.

They use that picture because it's the only one they can use out of his entire career. He rode the coat tails of one of the most talented teams ever put together.

Lifetime Devil Patrik Elias with an NTC will not be traded. He has no reason to leave

So true

No offense to the OP, but perhaps the thread should be more along the lines of "who is the last player your team would trade?" since there aren't any truly untouchable players ever since the Great One got traded, much less roughly half a dozen per team...I know, easy to say for a Leafs fan huh

Wow this thread has been diluted, watered down. Look at these lists of "untouchables"

Many players with NTC have been traded.

Many players have left their "lifetime" teams.

How would he feel about leaving if half way through the season the Devils are 12th in the East?
