In his first Boston-area event, Derek Sanderson will grace New England Mobile Book Fair with a talk about his life and his book. You, his fans, will have an opportunity to ask questions, and of course, the event will conclude with a signing.

I picked this book up a week and a half ago. So far the book has been hilarious to read; the story of Sanderson and a fellow Bruin chasing a montreal fan out of the stadium and down the street in Montreal had me laughing aloud in public. I highly recommend everybody get this book if they can.
After Sanderson went to the Rangers I remember a between periods interview with Bill Chadwick and he's chainsmoking cigarettes. I remember thinking even back then 'Holy ****'. Derek was a different cat.
One night Dave Shea said something and DS snapped - "Listen fatso you can't even skate so let me criticize not you."
DS always did the 'Keys to the game' with Fred. In 1990 before Game 7 with the Whalers Fred asked him what was the key to the game - DS replied "Score more goals than Hartford."
I also remember a playoff game vs Montreal and the camera focused on Patrick Roy. Derek says "And there's Patrick Ru-wah. Should be Roy (as in Roy Rogers). But it's Ru-wah."
I also remember when he came back from the WHA and John Pierson was interviewing someone between periods. Derek just comes on the set in street clothes (he was inactive, apparently), sits down next down to both of them (chain smoking, of course) and starts with funny faces and antics while poor Pierson is trying to conduct the interview. I was about 9 years old at the time and I thought he was insane.
Sadly there are a lot of players like this from the 70's and 80's and players now play in a different cash flow then the previous generations. I lived in Vancouver for many years and came across some former players who were broke and busted in all sense of the words
