With the lack of talent on the wing in our system, isn't it a waste to put a guy like Gally, Barkov or Monahan on a second line? They would play with average wingers and they would not put number like they could on a 1st line. A 1st line made of Pac - Monahan/Barkov - Gally would be sick to watch. And you have the possibility to put back the center on the second line. I'm huge fan of Galchenyuk and I WANT to see him centering our first line but I'm open to see him on the wing if we have a better option or combination.
I wouldn't be against it. Moving Gally to the wing would certainly make the Habs a more complete team and would make them compete for the cup quicker, instead of trading for pieces that would put us over the top.

He's way too versatile as a player to play wing IMO. The only way he gets to be on wing is to play with Crosby.

What about with Sarrault and Boucher?

Galchenyuk - Barkov/Monahan/MacKinnon - Collberg
Pacioretty - DD/Eller/Plekanec - Kristo

That would be a deadly top6...

Heyooo! I think that's more because Sarault's about as good as Eller is on the wing.

Where does Gally compare with this years draft eligible players. If he were in this draft would he still have been top 3?

I think he would have gone maybe top 5-top 10.

Not top 3, Mackinnon, Yakupov and Jones have taken those spots.

Good read about Galchenyuk ...

«C'est sûr qu'on ne l'échangera pas», a assuré Jacques Beaulieu.

Jacques Beaulieu : We will not trade him.

This. Galchenyuk could play right defensmen and still dominate in the OHL. Sarault is basically the Sting's version of Scott Gomez but with good numbers.

Keep the faith people. I'm going all cliché, but need I remind you the Oilers traded Gretzky?!
And btw, is Jacques Beaulieu Sarnia's GM?!

Would you have expected him to outright say they will trade him? That could lead to unnecessary distractions for Gally and the team. And im sure if he gets an offer he cant refuse, he would have no choice but to pull the trigger. Also interesting tidbit is that he referred to him as a powerforward winger.

Of course Beaulieu would never say "we are going to trade him". But there are tons of ways to answer without comprising yourself one way or another.
He could have said "For now Alex is a part of our team, he's our captain and we count on him to win" or "We'll cross that bridge when we get there."
He didn't have to go as far as promising he wouldn't trade him, that's all.

Also in that article, we learn that Galchenyuk played wing before becoming centre.

«Je jouais à l'aile avant de devenir joueur de centre. Je suis maintenant de retour à l'aile et, puisque je ne sais pas à quelle position on va m'employer au niveau suivant, c'est bien d'être préparé à toute éventualité.»

1) Is Beaulieu the team's GM?

2) Why should it matter to us whether or not Galchy gets traded or not?

1) Yes he is, it was answered a couple of post before yours.

2) We should care because it would mean that Galchenyuk would be traded to a contender which would mean that he would be playing with players that can match up with his skills. The times that I've read That write a beautiful set up to Boucher followed by him not burying it is mind blowing. On a better team, Galchenyuk would have a LOT more points. Obviously his role would be diminished on a powerhouse and some people might argue that it is better for his development to carry the team on his shoulders but I don't think Sarnia isn't the best option for him because of Beaulieu's coaching.

You're bang on with this MAG.

Also, nice to see Galchenyuk is now 6'2 205lbs.

I couldn't care less if Gally gets less points because his linemates can't bury the puck. What I care is how he created this opportunity and if he continues to do so. Another thing that I care though, is playoffs experience. I doubt he will get much with Sarnia, and I doubt he'll get much with the Dogs neither.

I don't really care if he doesn't get traded to a contender, cause if they get eliminated he can join the Bulldogs which might be better for him anyways
