I'm not sure I agree that the U.S. will feature a meat & potatoes lineup. First of all, I can't see a Phil Housley coached team employing that style. Second, there are a ton of weapons, even if they aren't what might be considered "known" quantities.

How do people feel about Alex Broadhurst? He's played pretty well for London and seems like a good top six option compared to some of the other names here.

I'd be shocked if Trocheck isn't a safe bet at this point.

Appreciate your feedback... I'll try and familiarize myself with the players correct positions...

Defense is a real crap shoot with a lot of similar players in terms of talent.

Shayne Gostisbehere
Conor Murphy
Patrick Sieloff
Jack McCabe
Mike Reilly
Matt Grzelcyk
Vail is better suited to LW IMO. Also, you don't think Henrik Samuelsson or Zach Stepan have a shot?

Brady Skjei, barring an injury, will make the team on defense.

Stephen Fogarty and Boo Nieves are having good years as freshmen as Rangers prospects. Fogarty is more of a 3rd line center at this point in his career and has good size and strength for a 19 year old. I could see him grabbing a lower line role as he is a good PKer and good on faceoffs.

Does Andy Welinski have any chance of making the team?

Skjei isn't a lock from what I have been reading.

"Then there’s Brady Skjei, who offers Team USA its best skating defenseman probably. He’s had a few tough moments at Minnesota this year as a freshman, but has size, physicality and explosive speed when he gets going. Those tools are going to be very attractive on the big ice, but he’s not playing the minutes at Minnesota you’d expect from a first-round draft pick. It’s becoming less clear there’s a spot for him on this team, but his physical attributes keep him in the hunt."

I don't think that's a given. The other names you mention have no chance.

The only thing that will prevent him from making the team is the fact he just came off of a somewhat serious injury. Doesn't seem too worse for the wear though.

Skjei simply hasn't been playing enough at Minnesota.

I don't think Samuelsson's skating is good enough to play on the Olympic sized sheet.

Watching Minnesota this year made me realize Gostisbehere is a lock. Skjei/Reilly don't deserve to be there but I won't be surprised if one makes it.

From what I've heard about his college play this year I don't really see why he can't slot in as the 6th guy on the blueline.

Just throwing an idea out there...I doubt this would happen, but maybe as an effort to move some offense around, if Kerdiles makes the team I think he'd be great with Galchenyuk. They're already good friends and there's a good chance they might build some chemistry together. Unlikely to happen but it wouldn't be the worst idea. That's assuming he even makes it though.

Didn't bother doing the extra forward/defender.
Really think he'll be on USA's top pairing? I haven't been able to watch him at all this year, so I haven't seen how he's developing.

I do not believe he is playing well enough to be on the top pair, but I do believe he makes the team. Very good puck moving defenseman.

I think the "big ice" angle is a bit of the red herring. It's usually more of an issue with North American teams not doing as well in Europe and vice versa for more practical reasons. Biggs' skating is fine and I definately think he's in the mix.

What do you guys think about Galchenyuk's odd at winning tournament MVP? My fellow Habs fans and I were talking about the possibility and the on the Habs forum and thought there is a chance that it happens, but unlikely due to the talent locked out of the NHL and forced to stay in Junior (Huberdeau, Strome, Yakupov, Hamilton, etc.). So is there a chance he can accomplish it?

Biggs play this season should make him a near lock. A speedy 230 lb powerforward that can produce.
