Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan arrested for drunk driving but wait....

Quote:
Sheahan, the Red Wings top pick in the 2010 NHL draft, was wearing a purple Teletubby costume when he was pulled over shortly before midnight on Oct. 29 for driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler the wrong way on Ottawa Avenue NW, near Pearl Street.

Yikes. Pretty funny but a DUI is serious business.

HAHAHAHA coming home from a halloween party no doubt. This has been talked about on the wings board but apparently the wings arent too upset with him about the whole thing. Thats what dealing with Probert will do for a front office I guess. Until Riley tries taking an ounce of coke across the border I think he'll be fine

Detroit Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan had a blood-alcohol content of .30 – nearly four times the legal limit and nearly double the threshold for the “super-drunk’ charge he faces following his arrest in late October by Grand Rapids Police.
What a dumbass. Lucky for him he didn't hurt or kill anyone and throw away his life because he didn't want to take a cab.

Yeah, between Probie and sneaking Russians out of the Soviet Union, I doubt there is much that would really faze the Wings front office. Still, dumb on pretty much everyone involved in this mess with Sheahan, though.

The teletubby costume is pretty funny, but driving with a BAC of .30 is insane. For pretty much everyone that means you've got the spins, slurred speech, are either puking or going to puke, etc. It's absolutely hammered, to the point where walking is a challenge, nevermind driving. Very lucky that he didn't seriously injure or kill himself or someone else.

When I was 19 I was arrested for underrage drinking while camping with friends. I blew a .295. I was probably 6'1 185lbs (no fat) and a seasoned drinker. I had been completley stumbling drunk and never would've been able to start a car, let alone drive one.

.300bac is just about as high as your bac can get before you pass out straight on your face. I don't care if you are a soriety girl or a 280lb lumberjack who drinks moonshine daily.

The getting pulled over in a Teletubby costume part is hilarious, the fact that he was driving "superdrunk" at the time not so much. I wonder how much he remembers about the whole situation, at 0.30 he shouldn't be concious, let alone making the decision whether he should operate a vehicle or not.

People who regularly binge drink can get up to .3-.4 regularly on the weekends while still performing many normal tasks. Decision making is almost always affected but seasoned drinkers are capable of completing many normal motor functions.

There's not a chance he would die from alcohol with a .34 BAC

Everyone seems very calm bout this. Swedens biggest newspaper said he could get half a year in jail and even deported for the i.d thingy. But they tend to overreact.

just saw this. So many levels of hilarious, sad, and bad at the same time.

a) not just drunk, but superdrunk. 0.30. He should have been passed out.
b) telletubby costume. Seriously. Yes, he probably went to a halloween party, but was he superdrunk when he chose his costume too?
c) he tried to lilja his way out of the situation, which seems to be what hockey players do.
d) you're 20 years old and making six figures. Call a cab you idiot.

Yes this is serious but he's an athlete, so he'll probably just pay a fine and do community service.

BTW what was the whole Lilja Worrell (I think) fiasco?

Edit: Nevermind I found it on google.

Make fun of the bouncers all you want but take a gander at this in the mlive report that updated all this from .17 to including the whole report.

Quote:
Police initially believed they had arrested Smith before learning later in the night that it was Sheahan.

The report reads:

“Riley had a Michigan driver’s license in the license window in his wallet, which is what Officer Dyer used as his ID. Deputies found Riley’s Canadian license in the wallet after it was turned in with his property and he kept telling them his name was Riley.
“Riley is only 20 and I asked him if he had Branden’s (sic) ID so he could get in the bars. He shook his head yes and stated ‘yea.’“
So they booked him initially as Brendan Smith.

Full report:

http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index....ley_sheah.html Was in the OP but in case you guys are going past it which it looks like some are it is worth reading. A lot different than the initial reports on this.

He is a first time offender and even his previous history from Notre Dame with a couple underage offenses has been wiped clean. So I would be surprised if he got hit with something like that.

I am guessing as a foreign kid though that this will make the process towards eventually obtaining a license next to impossible. Maybe he did it in Indiana already, but chances are he was in the process of trying to get a license in the State of Michigan.

I am curious about what the organization has said to Smith about this. The company line on Sheahan is still.

Quote:
Jim Nill, the Red Wings assistant general manager, said of Sheahan, "He's getting help right now and will continue to get help.''
