They would need a deal that blows them away. At least thats how I look at it and how I think they intended for it to be in the rules.
But if Johnson is the "Franchise" player for CBJ, and Kane is the "franchise" player for Winnipeg, don't they cancel out?

I say we drop the whole designation as unworkable.

Sensi has a veto right. If he vetos a trade, the GM(s) have a right to appeal to the rest of the league.

Isn't that enough?

I suppose so lol. But I personally don't view Jack Johnson and his 20ish games as their franchise player. At this point I'd lean more towards Johansen lol.

Are people playing any games before trying to trade away half their team?

Who's trading half their team?

Columbus dealt two players off his roster, right? And he got a like replacement for one of them.

I don't see the big deal.

I said trying to. There's so many big names being shopped already.

I'm wondering if everyone designates one player from their team as their "Franchise Player", then that player can not be moved for a set amount of years.

I agree. Stars names are being thrown around like candy. I think the problem is everyone likes the sexy name, and everyone wants the absolute best even if a tier down would work fine. If you need a top 6 forward no ones looking at the likes of Radim Vrbata, they all want the Evander Kanes/Jeff Carters/Rick Nashs.

Also this doesn't help in negotiations, I'm prone to it too. But if I need a top 6 forward I'm offering Keith Yandle because I know people aren't looking for Klesla even though hes a useful guy.

Well, I think it is natural to look to the big move first, particularly when you know you only have one to make at the start (I'm assuming most people will be holding at least one deal in reserve for injury or deadline dealing).

I'm sure Vrbata is on my list. I think I've inquired after just about every RW-SNP in the league.

This is my biggest problem. I would love to keep Kovy, Henrique, and Larsson. But I don't see any way of filling what I perceive as weaknesses through the likes of Zubrus, Clarkson, Fayne, Volchenkov, etc. And even if I could trade (one of) those players for something decent, I'd likely be filling one hole just to create another. I really did not mean to cause a ruckus (I wasn't even shopping Kovy, I got on HF and had three PMs asking for him) and I'm fine keeping him if you guys don't want the trade to go through.

haha. Woah. Didn't expect this much backlash over my Kane trade.

I was approached about Kane. I said no way. It will be too expensive for you.

We kept talking and came to an agreement.

He gets a player he will hold onto for probably the duration of this league. I have an immediate and speedy replacement on the 1st line. A legit top pairing D-man. A good prospect and a good pick.

With a top 6 D that will probably be.

Buff - Johnson
Bogosian - Enstrom
Hainsey - Stuart

This trade makes sense. I did not really want to make any moves, but with the amount of simming we will be doing this gives me a very deep team that can weather injury hits.

I think everyone is okay with the value. Its the franchise label that is throwing everyone off lol. Everyone has a different view on it, but I personally like to be able to look at a team and know exactly who their leader is going to be. I don't want to play a Washington without Ovechkin or a Pittsburgh without Crosby.

One trade doesn't ruin the league or anything, but I've seen a lot of leagues where teams are essentially unrecognizable. I mean these trades DO happen (Rick Nash), but they should be few and far between. That is the balance I think TBC has finally found, it's not impossible, just very very expensive to the point that very few people will want to do it.

All of which were totally baseless. At no point has Bowman or the Hawks ever come out and said Kane was on the trade block. The only people Hawks people who said Kane should/would be traded were impatient, moronic, Hawks fans.

On his marketing value alone, Kane is untouchable.

at 50 contracts.

I guess there was no reason to make those offers to free agents after all.

Once both teams confirm the trade for CBJ & WPG ill confirm. Being a BJ fan myself JJ is absolutely the franchise player there. Hes a potential 50-60 pt Dman, captain of team america and hes only 25yrs old at a 84 overall at D. Not to mention his skating is superb in the game. AND wpg gets umberger who is also a 50-60 pt player very defensive, very tough. AND he gets john moore who was a first rd draft pick and is a very shifty ofd AND a pick. So yes, thats more than overpayment in my eyes.

DONT FORGET BOTH TEAMS MUST CONFIRM TRADES AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN POSTED OR I WILL NOT APPROVE THEM

I have to agree with some of the above posts about the WPG - CBJ trade, considering that the CBJ GM only will be around during weekends, we should await a bit before going through with this trade that will have a reasonably big impact for CBJ right now.
