He's one of those not quite good enough offensively to be a top 6 C, not quite good enough defensively to be a 3rd line C type of guys, Matt Stajan 2.0.
I'd also trade Bozak for Hjalmarrson (2 years vs. 1 year, plus I believe in building from the net out)

However, I have to disagree about Bozak vs. Stajan. I think Stajan has more natural skill then Bozak that allowed him to have some success with skill players and rack up some decent offensive numbers. But Bozak has a much higher compete level that makes him tough to play that will translate to being able to be a good 3rd line center. I see Stajan as a good player on a bad team because he gets powerplay time but doesn't have a place on a good team. Well right now I see Bozak as okay player on a bad team who is simply in over his head.

A better comparison for Bozak would be Dominic Moore who was misslotted as a first liner in Toronto but was great as a third liner in Montreal, Tampa and San Jose.

In reality, Bozak in a good team is a third line center, he is only able to play first line due to our weakness at the center slot. If all goes well he might become a decent second liner but I don't see it TBH.

Stastny, Duchene, O'Reilly, Olver down the middle.

I think someone has to go or they're wasting assets.

I still think we might be the ones prying away Stastny from them, he's a valuable player and we might have to overpay for him but I can see us being the team that gets him away from there. Especially with O'Rielly and Duchene being able to play to the level they are capable of.

Unless Olver can overtake Stastny, I think he'll be the one to go.

I see Stastny returning to his 60-70 pt self this year. With some good wingers by his side [finally!], and reduced pressure, he will do well there. No need to mess up that depth unless Olver knocks one of these 3 over, which is pretty unlikely.

Mcginn and Downie I believe had some good chemistry with him as well last year. Till Jones returned, so with Jones and Mcginn he could be a solid guy for them once again.

Good thing Avs fans have been historically bad at valuing their own players:

Liles for a 1st and Aulie

That was 1 fan...if we assessed every fanbase off 1 fan...well, they'd all look like idiots.

Actually, most Avs fans were over-valuing Liles at the time of the trade, but that's besides the point.

I agree that package isn't getting us Duchene.

If we want Duchene we're gonna have to give up Gardiner or Rielly...

I'd give up Gardiner in a flash for Duchene. Rielly is almost untouchable.

Kind of funny isn't it.

Finn - many here think should have gone 1st. round.
Kadri - 7th. overall
1st. is a 1st.
Bozak - worth a 2nd. and UofD connection.

So according to some Leafs fans that's 3 first round picks and a 2nd., for a somewhat proven player.

That seems like quite a bit.

Now if Duchene starts off on a tear, and Kadri struggles when we play again that might be the minimum price.

Not sure if you're trying to work this into an analogy for the Kessel trade, but that would be like giving them 4 quarters for the $. While those guys have good value, none of them are blue chippers. If we wanna get a young top 6 roster forward, who is under control for the foreseeable future, we will have to give up at least one piece in a similar scenario.

The closest to that on our roster is Gardiner. I wouldn't move Gards. While our D prospects look pretty awesome, we need to first build a solid D before moving out guys/deeming them expendable.

No I was thinking more along the lines of the Pronger deal.

Pronger a proven star.

To be fair, I'm not in love with any of the guys I offered up there. But I can tell you there are a tonne of posters here who are.

I would hate to. Last summer I wouldn't.

But if that's what it took I think I might have too. Depending on Duchene's health. IF Kulemin returns to 25 goal form and Gardiner becomes a top pairing D-man and PP specialist, Colorado does quite well. IF Duchen returns to the trajectory he had as a rookie, then the Leafs are loving having a #1 center.

There might be too many questions for either team to make the deal. I doubt either team would be willing to give up what they have to take a risk on the other guy.

I suggested this on the trade board and WSH fans were in agreement
Leo, Reimer, and Gunnar for Neurvirth and Tom Wilson

Leafs get
Potential top 6 PF with solid 3rd line downside
Potential #1 goalie with very good backup downside

Caps get
Solid top 4 dman
Potential 4th line agitator possibly fringe 3rd liner
Potential okay #1 goalie with good backup downside

Caps competing now get the more sure thing in Gunnar addressing immediate need
Leafs competing in a few years get more potential

I'm higher on Neurvirth than most but love Tom Wilson and I like Gunnar but with Phanuef, Gardiner, Liles and now Rielly i see him as expendable with so many LDs

I'd rather keep them and draft a centre next summer. There'll be lots available, and I'm liking our chances at a top five pick.
