"How close was Shane Doan to becoming a Flyer? Close enough for the organization to mock up a couple jerseys for the 36-year-old forward: one with No. 18, another with No. 91.
And, apparently, close enough for his agent, Terry Bross, to post a photo of the sweaters hanging in the Flyers' locker room at Skate Zone on Instagram with the caption, “So glad this didn’t happen. It came close though.” (No. 19, which Doan wears in Phoenix, is currently owned by Scott Hartnell here in Philadelphia.)"
Doan was as close to becoming a Flyer as he was a Canuck, Sabre, or King. He entertained the thought, but he had no real intention on leaving the Coyotes
Meh....I'm more bothered by how close we came to having Weber. I wonder how really close Doan was to signing though. Not sure the jersey is all that much proof of an imminent signing...

I agree, always interesting to think on it tho... as OSBS said below

The jerseys themselves aren't proof of anything we didn't already know, but the fact that Doan's agent singled out the Flyers after the signing (when he had no longer had anything to gain by doing so) seems significant.
Speaking of Weber, to bad we didn't offer sheet him before Suter signed in Min, we could have slipped some cash under the table for those guys to keep their deal hush hush for a while

Speaking of Weber:
Did he ever sign the contract with Nashville?

I would have loved Doan on the Flyers, not like it matters now, but I'd like to know what Holmgren was offering?
