**** that. Blind faith or not, shortened season or not, I'd be happy to have the NHL back. I'm dying without it.
Not about blind faith, like thinking a heronist would stop using just because supply was short for a couple of weeks...

I want a shortened season only for the simple fact that I don't want to have to stop watching for 7 years again because of another lockout, and actually this time I might not even come back after that. If they play again this season, I'll prob still continue to follow hockey, if they don't, I probably wont.

I'm not sure I want a 48 game season -- If we were to win the cup, there would be an asterisk next to it. Or any team who wins it for that matter.

You'll have to point me to the asterisk on the 1995 Devils' championship (and the one in non-Devil fans minds dont count).

Is it actually engraved on the cup?

I don't see how winning the cup in any context is worse than not winning the cup. Hell, the Patriots cheated to most of their Super Bowls and no one discounts them. I've never heard a reasonable poster discount the Devil's SC championship in 94-95 either.

The difference between a 48 and 82 game season isn't that significant, and the only legitimate argument against it would be if you won the cup after just barely making the playoffs.

Not really engraved. They used a Brother P-Touch Labeler.

You still have to win 16 games in the playoffs to win the cup, and everybody is still on the same playing field in a shortened 48 game season or so.

Here is the Standings on January 1 last season, sorted on points per game played:

5 Pittsburgh 38 46 1.21
6 New Jersey 37 43 1.16
7 Washington 37 42 1.14
8 Winnipeg 38 43 1.13
9 Ottawa 39 43 1.10

11 Buffalo 38 38 1.00
12 Tampa Bay 37 37 1.00
13 Montreal 39 35 0.90

2 Vancouver 39 50 1.28
3 San Jose 34 42 1.24
4 Detroit 38 49 1.29

10 Phoenix 39 42 1.08
11 Colorado 40 43 1.08

13 Edmonton 37 33 0.89

48 games is plenty to separate the good teams from the bad. There's always a certain randomness to the playoffs anyways.

They call the playoffs the "second season" for a reason.

I don't buy the "it's less meaningful" ****. I think it's stupid when people say it about the Devils, and I'll think it's stupid when people say it about the winner of this year's Cup.

We discount the Devils 95 Cup because of our rivalry with them. That year, no one had an advantage going into the season. The Devils played the same amount of games that year as ANY other team. Please show me how the engraving of the 95 Devils looks any different than that of any other championship, ever on the Cup.

This half cup thing is BS. It would be a Half cup if only 4 teams went into the playoffs, and there were 2 series needed to win.

No real news there. We all knew that Jacobs is the greedy ******* running the show. Bettman is hated because he bows before him.

I'll take a 24 game season. 16 game season. 10 game season, whatever. As long as it's the same for everybody and we win the Cup....we're still champions.

I've been an advocate of a shorter NHL season anyway.

But would like it to start on time.

62 game season would suffice every year. The games get a bit dull during the "dog days" and the west-coast trips are a pain in the rear-end.

I like the idea of a shorter season and more conference and division play.

One game against each team out of division and conference and the rest within.

A less condensed schedule could cut down on injury a bit.

Not engraved on the cup, but if we were to win this year it just would leave a sour taste in my mouth. I don't know why, it's just how I feel at this point.

Fair point, but look where LA and PHX are on that list.

Just saying.

It all comes down to money my friend. Less games = less revenue. Will never happen, at least not anything drastically less than 82.

No championship should be considered tainted, unless a team cheats, or one throws games.

The Stanley Cup is fetching no matter what.

When the league was contracted to 6 teams and a shorter season it was difficult. As it was before that when the league was 12 or so teams large and still had a shorter schedule.

Its always hard.

Every team in the league is subject to the same rules.

We bust Devils fans' chops about the 95 Cup because its fun to get on their nerves. But a Cup is a Cup. Or as Ovechkin once said "Cups is Cups".

I just mean that I would rather win a cup the right way -- with a full regular season schedule. This whole season leaves a sour taste, I'm just really fed up with what's going on.

#CBA #NYR Rangers are second most profitable team ($74 million). Coupled with TOR and MTL, those three teams account for 83% of NHL's income

The Kings flirted with making/missing the postseason all year. They finished 8th. The fact that they would have missed the playoffs doesn't phase me one bit.

They caught an incredible hot streak when the playoffs started. That's the randomness of the playoffs.
