There's only eleven healthy forwards on the current roster, so there's no option but to dress the seven defense. Without any recalls or signings, I'd say they're just playing through the injuries tonight hoping someone gets healthy for the weekend games. Adam's the closest and is hopeful for a weekend return, so it could be seven defense for just one game; plus, it's against a team that has been putrid, losing eight straight, and has zero locked-out NHLers.

...or maybe Lagace's in-transit from Bakersfield or wherever and the practice lines were simply that, practice lines.

This may be true but our line-up looks awful tonight. Looks to me like we have a first line, 2/3's of a second line and 2 fourth lines- we need to hope for a special teams battle tonight and have some success on the PP.

Maybe so, but with a goaltender of Markstrom's calibre they'll always have a chance. Besides, we probably only have one locked-out NHL'er in our lineup right now: Foligno. (McNabb is not yet a full-time NHL'er, especially with eight one-way contracts currently on Buffalo's books.)

There were options. They decided to recall Shiestel over Lagace, Boychuk and Szyd.

I feel they made the right call.

Yes, upper-body injury sustained in Friday's game. I guess he took a couple big hits in that one.

That is so many injuries. Anyone hear any updates on when we can expect Hodgson back in the line-up?

Sabres last year and now Rochester this season. The amount of injuries that the teams have had in recent memory is staggering. Injuries are unavoidable but it is the sheer number of them causing the teams to play musical chairs with the lines is frustrating.

The hit Girgensons took behind the net looked nasty.

And just think- the Amerks haven't had to worry about call ups.

Kevin O mentioned Hodgson was going to get looked at by the doctor this week. He's cleared to skate. Today's tweet:
Buffalo Sabres‏@BuffaloSabres: "Hodgson and Adam skating in practice but still wearing red for no contact"

I'm no doctor, but if he broke his thumb, I would think it would take 6-7 weeks to heal. That would land him coming back Christmas time.

Good thing we didn't sign any of those guys from last year that are playing in Europe now in case we had injuries. No room in this lineup for Turnbull, Whitmore, etc.

We had 20 forward in training camp. So no room in the lineup.

But you're including guys like Lagace, Parker, Szydlowski and Boychuk who have no business on the Amerks or in the AHL. Plus Tropp was lost for the year on opening night. There was room and an opportunity. But we're talking about Regier.

Would you have included Flynn in that group at the start of the season? Without injuries and a chance to play, would you still be saying the same about him?

Just about to post the exact same thing. Last year Rankin would have been included. Just how it is.

No I wouldn't. Flynn only played a couple games last season. Szydlowski had all year and was worthless. Same for Parker and Lagace. Rankin was also a different case because he got called up and was excellent right away.

There was room for Flynn to enter the lineup.

And we're talking about Regier, whose team scouted and signed Flynn as an UFA.

You win some, you lose some. Good UFA prospect finds by the Sabres: Varone, Finley, Flynn, Roy. The other players are questionable calls. But your 15th forward depth player for any team has no business being in that league. Doesn't mean they aren't the option to fill in short term if things get that bad.

Sorry we just disagree. Flynn was going to get time and prove himself even if Tropp didn't get hurt. But he did. You lose your 1st line winger on game 1, go out and find a replacement. That's my opinion.

Just wasn't going to happen through trade (with the lockout) or free agency.

They already had his replacement (next RW on the depth chart needs to step up. Then enter 13th forward). It just so happens that their 13th forward was able to step up and be a top winger on this team. Kudos to Regier and his team.

No, they didn't find a replacement. Flynn? No, he was going to play anyway. And Whitmore was toiling away in St. John's on a PTO.

You can try baiting me with your "kudos to Regier" and your lame link earlier, but it's not going to work.

How would Regier "find a replacement" with the lockout going on? We had 2 (should be) top line AHL RWs in Tropp and Mancari. Mancari obviously hasn't lived up to expectations so far, and Tropp got an unfortunate injury, but it's not like we didn't have enough depth/talent there going into the season.
