Cory Schneider signed with Ambri Piotta of the swiss league.

He'll surely have to stop a lot of shots during his time there. Not sure why he signed there, but it's nice to see him in the swiss league. Max Pacioretty played for them, but I don't think he really loved it there...

He's got dual citizenship. But wow, didn't see that one coming. He's the only goalie for the guys in Van to practice with.

Good for Cory.

Hopefully, this just gets him into game shape for when the NHL season starts *fingerscrossed*

Oh man, I hope Cory plays well and stays healthy!

The last thing we need is for Schneider to play average and then we have another goalie debate.

Hansen with 1g and 1a so far in his teams faceoff against League leader Kärpät with Turris on the roster..

http://www.sm-liiga.fi/ottelut/raportti/37702.html

So he's now 4g 6a in 9games.

Edit. it has been corrected to two goals and not one goal and one assist.

so it is 5g 5a in 9 games. Jannik Hansen was man of the match for the third time out of nine.

I didn't know he had Swiss citizenship. Pretty sweet deal.

This is a pretty big sign that the year will be lost.

Yeah, when people from the negotiating committee pack up and leave its not a good sign.

If Schneider sucks in Switzerland do we keep Luongo?

Schneider has said in the past if he went overseas it could be as a tool to warmup for a shortened training camp.

Could mean he thinks Jan 1st is the return date as well.

Schneider is a good guy but explain to me why it's okay to destroy a person's liveleyhood who is based in europe than people in Bc who are angry that Chinese workers are going to work in mines on a work visa? All these millionaire players are taking peoples jobs where is the uproar?

That is their privilege as the top 600 people in their profession in the entire world. It's the reality of the world we live in where "fair" only exists in our wildest hopes and dreams.

There job exists because of wealthy owners who use the clubs as tax breaks.

This is so wildly simplified and inaccurate I don't even know where to begin.

Perhaps it's a sign that a deal's already been done between the two sides, and he just wants to go warm up for training camp.

Professional sports leagues employ professional players. Have you noticed that most of the players for Vancouver were not born in BC?

The situation with the mining company is different. They want to bring in their own workforce because they can underpay them. The potential for exploitation is huge.

This situation could set a precedent that may lead to very grim results in years to come.

Besides, Schnieds is only going over there for a month, so I doubt anyone will be 'unemployed'. While he's there, his skills and character will have a positive effect on the team.

How did I know you would be the one to suggest this?

The answer i no! You don't trade a goalie who wants to be here over the guy who has hinted he wouldn't mind getting out. Who is to say if we keep Luongo he doesn't do this again in 2-3 years?

Besides look at other goalies that have gone to Europe, the majority of them are not putting up quality numbers. It has a lot to do with the quality of players in front of them but also the larger ice surface. Larger ice means different positioning for a goalie... that must be hard to get used to.

Yet Luongo hasn't helped out in the negotiations at all.

Schneider signed with a crappy team because he wants the challenge. I don't see why you judge his play in a different league that brings lots of factors with it, on a crappy team.

If you're better qualified and better at your job, you're likely to win that job over someone else. These teams that sign NHL players don't seem to be having any issues with it, in fact it's bringing nothing but positives when you get the best players in the world playing in leagues overseas. Bring people to the games to see these players, and a huge reason why teams sign NHL'ers.

Schneider with a 4-3 today, stopping 40 of 43 shots against! Spezza was on the opposing team, but didn't register a goal (had an assist though).

Nice start for Cory! Honestly not expecting too much success from him when his team's first line includes Richard Park.

Ambri-Piotta is a pretty interesting team actually. The two villages of Ambri and Piotta has a combined population of 500 people. Yet they average over 3700 people in attendance per game.
