Why is the Galaxy better than the iPhone?

Because Landon Donovan doesn't play for the iPhones.

I want to go to the MLS Cup...I just don't want to pay that kind of money for it. The MLS has improved tenfold over the past decade, especially over the past five years. It's still never going to be the best league in the world and it's rules to keep it competitively balanced basically rule out the possibility of still-elite foreign players playing here (or even most good Americans...Donovan was a real rarity and that has more to do with him being uncomfortable outside the US than anything)...but there's no reason why it can't be on the level of Eredivisie (Dutch) or such soon. The growth of the game on the west coast has been monumental...unfortunately that's not the case basically everywhere else and I just don't see the sport ever being real popular in the east.

Still, really no different than going to a Penguins game in a good seat...which I probably would have done when I'm home for Christmas if there was a damn season going on

I've gotten somewhat into the MLS over the past couple years because of the Sounders and I swapped allegiances to the Galaxy once it became clear that I was going to end up here (really the only LA team I actively root for)...and I'm going to assume it's not going to be too often that the championship game is going to be held 11 miles away from me while also potentially being the last game for the best American player ever (and Beckham's last in LA...though I really won't lose any sleep over that one).

Really it's a choice between going to the MLS Championship or getting a Tottenham Dempsey kit...

So...I'm going to the game.

That's NHL money going to the MLS. If the NHL does return to play this year then this will be the first season since the 94-95 lockout season that I won't be going to any games. If no games are played...well I'll still be making a huge step back financially as I had season tickets in 05-06.

My cellphone does the job despite it being like 6-7 years old. I rarely get calls anyway and just use it to send the odd text or for emergencies. Quite frankly, I hate cellphones/smartphones and the fact that society has become so dependant if not..... dare I say....addicted to them???

I approve this message. I had to buy a new phone a few months ago because I dropped mine in a creek. I walked into Verizon and said "I want the cheapest phone you have". The lady proceeded to tell me why I needed a smartphone. It took 5 attempts for her to see I literally wanted the cheapest phone they had.

MLS season restarts in March I think so plenty of games whilst the NHL is on. If at all.

I went to a Toronto FC game last year and had a lot of fun. It's much better than on TV.

Soccer or Futbol or whatever, is better in person than on TV. Way better, same with basketball.

I like googly eyes.

It occurs to me that "Gavrilo Princip and The Black Hands" would be a pretty good band name.

I've always thought that if I had any musical ability (I don't) I'd start a band to counter Franz Ferdinand with a name such as that.

i'm watching a laserdisc rip of the 1936 version of Show Boat. i'm no great fan of musicals (in fact, prior to watching this, the only musicals i've ever liked were the 1933 version of 42nd Street and the 1943 version of Cabin in the Sky). this film is outstanding. the direction is immaculate (James Whale, remembered for Frankenstein (1931)), the acting is great and the songs are wonderful.

here's Paul Robeson singing the definitive version of Ol' Man River -

i can't really figure out why this isn't available. perhaps its the presence of one song in blackface. but i don't think that should be held against the film - it addresses issues of prejudice far better than any other film of it's era. there's a touching scene involving the troupe of actors protecting a couple accused of miscegenation by a southern sheriff (illegal both during the setting of the movie and the time the movie was made).

reminds me of another movie that deals with prejudice and racism in a novel way that was panned by those who hadn't seen it - Sam Fuller's White Dog, a sensationalist, nearly exploitationist b-picture about a dog trained by professionals to be racist. it's a great parable but was criticized by the NAACP as trying to push a racist message across in its depictions of the dog's actions, when in-fact it's one of the great anti-racist films of all time.

anyways, just some food for thought.
