We're in agreement here.

Both these sides deserve the hurt in terms of revenues that they have coming.

But, its a hell of a lot more difficult to run a business than it is to play hockey for a guaranteed paycheck in the millions every year.

Probably soon, can't see how this is going anywhere but that direction now.

In my opinion, and not everyone will agree, one of the big problems here is that the players feel like the NHL treats them like **** and pushes them around every time these negotiations come up. At some point you can push people far enough that they'll start acting against their own interests just to spite you, and I think that's where we're at now. Yes overall it might be better if the players just caved, cuz hey they'd be making money and all of that stuff, but that's a very bitter pill to swallow and the NHL has given them every reason to be spiteful

Wow. An entire two days of mediation. Good job, NHL and PA. You two groups have reached a new level of stupidity. Threatening decertification looks like the only option that's left....you know, except NEGOTIATING.

Oh yeah. Completely agree. It's like people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for lawyers, fighting over something like 20K in court. Just to say "I didn't cave in."

Yeah, that's the season. Neither side wants to budge and they have come this far. Too stubborn on both sides

Cancel the entire damn season already.

Months of negotiating and these buffoons can't even compromise.

Hell it's pretty much how I feel at this point. I love watching hockey, but now I really just want this whole thing to hurt the NHL badly. I want them to lose sponsors, corporate backing around the league, I want fan attendance and merchandise purchasing to go down. I want the league to really suffer from this lockout and realize they can't keep doing this, and that they need to run the league better.

The lockouts are a symptom of a poorly run league, and that one is alllllllllllllllll on the owners and NHL management.

That's the whole reason the NHLPA went out and got Fehr. They're making a stand, right or wrong... that they won't foot the bill for owners' mistakes.

Personally I think this is one CBA early to fight this fight.

The owners' asks are not unreasonable (aside from a redundant contract restriction or two). 50/50 just like every other sport. A decent ammount of make whole money from owners' pockets (they could meet right in the middle on what owners and players are asking). If they dropped one of the 5% variance OR the term limit they'd be playing in two weeks.

This isn't aobut any of that for the players... it's about not capitulating. At all.

Sad. Very sad.

What the hell did two days of mediation do anyway? They spent yesterday just presenting the mediators with what this was all about, giving them background info. So it was kind of like one day of mediation.

Too bad RIM took it in the balls. Whats his name was probably crazy enough to start an alternate hockey league. Leave all the "owners" holding nothing but their junk and empty arenas.

Seriously, if the players decided to "join" an alternate league or create one would the current NHL owners have any recourse ?
