Lol.

Rookie league prospect who hasn't even been convicted yet and we're worrying if he's going to be able to come over the border down the road when he makes the Jays.

Lets slow down haha.

4 hours? Niagara Falls/Buffalo is 1.5hrs tops, 3hrs round trip. Even faster if he's using the train. Apprx distance of 120km. I bit more than the 80km commute he endured in Miami. (link) He'll survive.

I personally am not interested in LaRoche unless it's a 1 year deal with an option. The guy will have durability issues if he's playing any position other than DH.

That said he's probably looking for something along the lines of 3 years 28M.

Well, he could play DH. We do have EE who is capable of playing 1B.

I'm just assuming, but he could very well have a preference to play in the NL only, or play a certain position (1st base). Older players tend to be specific about the particulars.

On a short term 1yr deal, maybe. 3 is pushing it. Just not something I'm interested in. Durability being my main concern.

The 2010 draft was a rich one in pitching for the Blue Jays. And in 2012, it got better with the improvement shown by lefthander Sean Nolin.

"Nolin really emerged," general manager Alex Anthopoulos said.

The Blue Jays drafted Nolin, 22, in the sixth round out of San Jacinto (Texas) JC. He blossomed this season at high Class A Dunedin, where he went 9-0, 2.19 in 17 outings, including 15 starts. Then he made three starts at Double-A New Hampshire in August, striking out 18 in 15 innings with a 1.20 ERA.

He returned to Dunedin to make a playoff start but lost to Lakeland after allowing two runs in 62⁄3 innings.

"Nolin is probably the guy who took the biggest leap forward," Anthopoulos said. "I went specifically to see him (at New Hampshire) because our guys came back and were raving about him. We think he's got a chance to help us at some time next year."

Until now, Nolin, who is 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, was an overlooked selection in a draft that included the selections of such pitching prospects as Aaron Sanchez, Noah Syndergaard, Justin Nicolino and Deck McGuire.

"Obviously Andrew Tinnish (then scouting director, now assistant GM) did a great job taking him in the sixth round," Anthopoulos said. "I know (special assistant to the GM) Dana Brown really pounded for him in the draft room. He was his gut-feel guy.

"He's up to 95 mph from the left side, throws a lot of strikes. He has a deceptive delivery. Guys don't get good swings on his fastball, a bit like (J.A.) Happ in that respect.

"He's got a pretty good curveball and a pretty good changeup and slider as well. So he's a four-pitch guy who throws strikes, pretty good arm strength. He wasn't a guy who was on the radar coming into the year but he's really taken a huge step forward."

I think he would definitely be the DH. I read somewhere a few days ago that they plan on using EE as their every day 1B (last year he kind of split it with DH).

But I doubt he signs here. For as much flack as Lind takes, he can hit 20-25 bombs, making 5 mill. I mean, hell, in 2011 he hit 26 in 125 games. He really only struggled last year but was hurt alot. I'd much rather him for 5 mill and go after a starter than sign Laroche who will probably get quite a bit on the open market. Plenty of solid pitchers available both short term and long term. Haren, Marcum, Greinke (6 years, 150 mill, won't be here just sayin ).

Isn't Halladay available next year? Sign Haren to a 1 year deal and then bring DOC BACK! I know Im probably dreaming..

He'll most likely spend the year at AA so depends how he does there.

Limited upside is why he isn't talked about alot.

Oh okay. Seems like we definitely have pitching depth in the farm, just not major league ready

Pirates sign Russell Martin. Hmm, now this should heat up the catchers market quite a bit in the Winter's Meeting. Yankees and Rangers among others are without a catcher.

EDIT: he gets 17M over 2 years. A bit pricy on the annual value but at least they didn't give him an extra or two.

Yeah, seems like someone with back rotation upside, maybe his ultimate ceiling is #3 if everything goes right.

He has certainly moved up the rankings a lot this past season though. He wasn't on many's radar but had one heck of a season. He could be a guy we see in September, perhaps earlier if injuries occur.

I can't imagine they would be permanent. If it is then he'd get traded to an NL team

If Laroche does re-sign in Washington then that will put Morse on the block. He would be interesting as a platoon with EE at 1st base and DH. Trade Lind for anything.

Napoli is licking his chops. Martin signing means a team (like Yankees) get desperate for a catcher. Or is his preference DH now?
