Yep: that was what I was trying to get at, in a round-about way. With Telegin in the AHL and his "new" linemates playing a different style, he's being presented with opportunities to score that he didnt get last year.

I also think his improved skating has something to do with it as well - he had a great shot last year, but now he's able to get into better position to take that shot.

Jokinen II?
One of our writers broke down the assists in Barrie last year.

Surprisingly Telegin goals only accounted for 9 of Scheifele some assists.

I know, I know... Garret you have 2 more reports to finish for tomorrow... shush

But, one thing that isn't placed in that analysis is knowledge of options and role of players.
Hockey players are given roles partially by coaches and partially by natural intuition, they don't just happen completely by chance. If Scheifele thinks of himself as the secondary shooter (which he's become lately), then he's more likely to take a larger ratio of shots to passes. With Pearson and Telegin he was more the primary setup man so his pass:shot ratio was probably different.

There's a nice little write up in today's Sun about Kosmo.

Well at least the NHL.com headlines aren't locked out.

Kosmo is a bit of a streaky scorer, to say the least.

I've read where Walker feels his skating is NHL caliber, same with his shot. As a past NHL'er, he would know. Hopefully Kosmo keeps developing into a quality NHL player over the next few years.

That element reminds me of Kane. When Kane tastes blood (especially early in a game) he is very dangerous but if he gets a bit cool he gets down on himself and makes it look oh so tough.

Pre-game radio interview with Scheif coming up next; sounds like they plan to ask him about the Jets...

WTH? It sounds like they tried to play the interview, the tape didn't work, and now they've been running ads since!

Scheifele shut down so far tonight. 4-2 London leading Barrie, with the 3rd period just starting. Scheifele logged 10+ minutes in the 2nd period, and has logged 15m for the game.

Ugh! Scheifele just got ROBBED! Point blank right in front of the net, and the Knights goalie came up with a huge glove save. 4-3 London with about 10m to play.

Kasdorf got another start - his second consecutive. Ended in a 2-2 tie with 21 shots against.

Tough weekend for our elite prospects. Scheif gets shut down last night and some of the boys in the OHL scoring race with him lit it up tonight. Trouba went pointless in two games this weekend.

Well, it's nice weather tonight, that's a plus. Anyone care to talk me off this ledge?

Haha. Just remember, they can't win 'em all, every great season is going to have its fair share of rough games. Heck, if we had an NHL season, we probably wouldn't be THIS so focused on the game-by-game "progress" of the kids. Big picture: so far, most of the junior-aged prospects are making us proud, and there's no reason to think they won't continue to do so. What's important is how they continue to learn to respond to rough outings... sort of like how Kosmachuk responded to his early-season benching by turning on the jets.

Being a glass half full type I always think prospects learn by winning and by losing and learn during the big nights and the nights they get shut down. Trouba does appear to be taking his fair share of shots and blocking shots and doing well in the plus minus departmentnot the best stat to track but it will have to do). Wish I could watch a few Michigan games but the world juniors is coming up soon and we can watch him there.
