Either way, I'll take Giroux becuase he's a young center who can provide nearly the same offensive output and 2 way play and isn't signed till he's 40.

Can play both wing effectively.

Devils fan (and big kovy fan) voting giroux. you build around franchise centers, which is what giroux is.

Kovy. Though I can't argue too much against Giroux, and I do like him. He has only had a couple big seasons though in his young career so far, unlike Kovy who's been around over 10 years now. Have to see Giroux for another year or two.

He should go back to LW whenever the NHL comes back. Unless of course he really wants to stay at RW. I'm pretty sure this was something started by the most incompetent/worst coach in NHL history John Maclean, so that he could play with Parise. There is really no reason to continue this with Parise gone unless Kovy prefers it himself. Lemaire may have done this a few times the season before though, but I don't really remember.

I'm not sure if this was done as a compliment to Kovy since he's a better player than Parise, and they thought he could adjust easier, or if it was a seniority thing since Parise had tenure with Maclean/Devils.

Giroux has been better since the 2010 playoffs onward.

Better contract.

Younger.

Plays a more valuable position.

While Kovy is great, and I would love to have him on the Flyers, Giroux is better right now.

I would expect Giroux's next contract to be higher than Kovalchuk's as far as cap hit goes. Doubt it's anywhere near as long, but depending on what happens with maximum length's in the new CBA I'm sure it will be as long as it can be.

Deboer had him at RW on lines without Parise during the season and playoffs. Doubt he puts him back at LW.

Tough one, but have to take Kovalchuk.

One of the most dynamic players in the league. I think Kovy's physical play and goal scoring ability pushes him over Giroux.

Giroux might have more value since he is younger and great/elite #1 center but i would rather have Kovalchuk on my team.

Yeah I was actually thinking of that. Not sure why though. I guess cause he was playing RW the whole season, why change it at that point?

I don't really agree with the thought on HF that a center should get automatically more credit than a winger. I know center is supposed to be a tougher position.

But in today's game any top 6 forward, center or winger must provide average defence at minimum, the gap between a center and a winger regarding their 3 zone presence is constantly getting closer.

That being said, Giroux being younger and cheaper is an obvious choice, but I assure anyone who doesn't watch the Devils playing that when a winger like Kovalchuk is on his game, he might a pure domination, controlling the flow and pace of the game as much as any über-center in the league.

I'm more than happy with IK on the right wing personally. I mean once he was comfortable, he seemed to enjoy playing there.

RW or LW, I think he doesn't care, he'll play where PDB will tell him to play.

So hard to say, I have to give this one a dead tie. I absolutely love Kovalchuk, his sick snipes, absurd puck handling/control and his ability to be a candidate for the Norris. But Giroux's also a game changer; he can spontaneously make the pass no one saw coming or pick a corner or make the puck go the other way.

Giroux is a centre and has more years to burn, so I'll take him.

Depending on team needs and how long I'd have the player, I'll go with Kovy.

If I am starting a team from scratch Giroux and a pretty easy choice. Looking at what the Wings need, it is Kovy and that is also a pretty easy choice. I generally take the center in these debates but if this is just who do I want on my current roster that is Kovalchuk.

Datsyuk and him are going to look great together while they win gold in Sochi in my opinion. They already have when playing together for Russia in the past.

I voted Giroux, but its a toss up. We already have one Kovalchuk, another one would just be too awesome

By the way, I'd like to throw a shout out to all the Rangers and Flyers fans for being supportive of Devils players in almost every debate that comes up. It's a sign of a good rivalry that you can respect the other teams players even though you don't necessarily like them. Kudos to you guys.

Kovalchuck on JT's wing would be a thing of beauty for the Isles, they'd be unstoppable. This is kind of a tough question though because it takes two players at different positions and different ages as well as different contracts, needs to be more specific.

If it was for one year or the short term, Kovy AINEC.

Definitely in the $6-$7m range for Giroux. Maybe it won't be as easy a decision for some as soon as a year or two from now.
