VIKTOR STALBERG (Vastra Frolunda -SEL) : 8GP 6g 5a 11pts +5
BRYAN BICKELL (Znojmo Orli -Austria) : 9GP 3g 11a 14pts 0
PATRICK KANE (Biel--Swiss A) : 3GP 2g 5a 7pts -1
MICHAEL FROLIK (Chomutov Pirati-Czech): 14GP 9g 4a 13 pts 0
Notes:
1. In Frolik's case his ZERO in the +/- is a good number given that most of his teamates are NEGATIVe and some horiibly negative..
2. Bickell has no excuse--some other forwards on the team are +9 and +8 and +6 --several have good =/- numbers...Bickell is scoring but it seems not so invested in defensive play..
3. Pat Kane--as usual--scoring but NET BENEFIT in ES is marginal or slightly negative...there are some +4's and +3's on his team but also several negative guys including one at -10... So do not know if teamates dragiing his ES net result down or whether he himself is not defensively comitted enough..(probably some of both causing this mediocrity in ES with his net effect marginal at best...
4. VIKTOR STALBERG--the clear 2-way winner --scoring AND +5 --clearly having a net positive effect...there are positive guys on his team: a +12 , +7(2), +6.another +5 a +4 (2) and +3 (2) but lso some negative guys (including a -9 and -7) for a mixed bag team ..still gotta say Stalberg is not negating his offense with too much any defensive letdown offset (as one wonders about Kane and Bickell 's net ES benefits to their teams)..
tHe concern: When you add in Hawks medicrity in net not bailing out the ES defensive letdowns from many of our players ---we probably STILL won't get much "net" ES benefits out of this bunch... close to a wash in Es..so we probaly NEED a better PP this season to win games -because we do not have too many ES "stars" out there...
BUT: if there is any consolation ,it should be noted that NHL super scorer THOMAS VANEK has completed his 11 game stint in Austria playing for GRAZ with 5g 10a BUT ONLY -3....so it seems lots of NHL "stars" are just interested in scoring and not NET ES benefits to their team ..it seems a lot of NHL calibre players including several "stars" are not really that much help in even strength even in far lesser leagues...and if they cannot dominate enough to be highly positive in ES --then unless they help your PP to domination--one must ask-- Why pay so much (ok--not Biclkell) ? For if there is NOTHING SPECIALL DIFFERENTIATING THEM IN THE SCORE --in ES or in PP --then why pay them at all? So a Kane or a Vanek "star" had better help your PP be special -or they justy are not worth it given only negative or marginal benefits in ES ...SO -IF your PP stinks-then you had better have players capable of dominating the ES play such that they make significant positive difference --if they cannot, then WHAT ARE THEY GOOD FOR? AS the song says: ABsolutely NOTHING.
KANE on notice: MAKE OUR PP Dominant this year OR do a make up in ES play and be highly positive in making differential impact there...IF you cannot do either aspect well enough-then WHAT indeed are you good for? Perhaps--absolutely NOTHING. We shall see and if the NET BENEFIT does not justify the cost---sayonara...WE require key "difference-makers" either on the PP or in ES -preferavbly in both areas, but that seems toomuch to hope for...

Also remember that these players arrived not in game shape and playing with unfamiliar teammates for the most part. I don't think any of those numbers are bad at all. The main thing is to stay healthy and be ready when/if the NHL resumes.
I've visited his Thai team website and last update in news section is from y. 2007 .... I guess he'll spend more time on the beach as on the ice, holiday season is starting there.
