Linus Ullmark has extended his contract with Modo of the SEL through 14-15.

"Ullmark is a goalie we really believe in and it feels good to have locked him up for the coming seasons." - Markus Näslund, GM.

Does this affect when he can come over? I'm assuming not really due to the transfer agreement, but clarification would be useful.

No effect whatsoever. Everybody know that the NHL can take our players during the summer, so that goes without saying.

Wasn't this the player that Regier was visibly mad when Detroit got him in the first round of 2010 a couple picks before Buffalo was selecting?

Didn't realize it was Sabres prospect Logan Nelson whose hit put Ryan Murray out for the season. Murray said today that it was a totally clean hit as both were going to hit each other.

I can't decide if the best part of that story is that he was dressed as a teletubby when the officer pulled him over, or that he gave the office Brendan Smith's ID.

My favorite part is that they're using the superdrunk law, which sounds like it was written by an 18 year old girl.

RE: Riley Sheahan

He had a minor indescretion pre-draft as well. At the draft Bob McKenzie described it as a drinking violation, an underage drinking thing. Guess he's still underage....

From what I can tell by looking at the stats sheet Grigorenko was on the ice for all 4 PEI even strength/SH goals. To anyone who saw the game, were any of these goals his fault?

The Kelowna Rockets have traded import Filip Vasko to Red Deer.
Red Deer previously had only one import slot used on their starting goalie, so Kelowna will not be getting an import back.
Are they going to pick up a released import off the waiver wire (makes little sense) or opening up a spot for a certain someone?

The trade hasn't been announced officially, so we'll have to see.

I think he is saying we should ask Santa to send Girgensons to Kelowna for our Xmas gift.

I sure hope it happens.

Didn't Foligno have a pretty slow start last season?

As a former boss used to say: "hope is not a strategy"

But maybe Santa can make your Xmas wishes come true

I guess so, but not to the same extent and they have options with Girgensons.

Foligno was a 20 year old and his contract had kicked in, meaning if they sent him down they'd lose a year.
I never really had any problems with his play and he was just about meeting my expectations for him.
He definitely notched it up in the second half and has continued since then, but he didn't look out of place.

Girgensons on the other hand is 18 and his contract hasn't kicked in yet, as he hasn't met the required NHL game stipulation, so they have options with him.
He's also a first round pick, so they can't just continue to hope with his development.
He hasn't adjusted to the speed of the game and isn't even physically ready, which was the reasoning most went with when trying to justify this move.
His jaw injury at the end of last season probably had a bit to do with it (since he couldn't eat real food) but he also just hasn't matured yet and looks incredibly skinny out there.
He's lost offensively and defensively too, forcing plays and constantly chasing.
When they get some bodies back soon like Adam and Hodgson, he'll once again lose his top six spot and PP time, something that still resulted in no production or improvement in his game.

The trade is now official and Kelowna got a conditional sixth for Vasko.
Nothing has really been said yet with regards to this move being made to clear a spot for him, but it certainly opens the door and it makes sense now.
They've had time to try their experiment with Zemgus and it's gone exactly as most with no horse in the race likely expected it would, so it's time to do the right thing.

This is what I've always been confused on. So with him playing in the AHL as an 18 year old, it wouldn't burn a year off his contract until he plays the 10 games in the NHL or turns 20, whichever comes first? Am I understanding that right?

It's funny because you called this months ago. You would think people who are paid to do this at the NHL level would have recognized it too.

Well, I think there's a decent amount of NHL management and scouts that feel the same way as I do.
The lack of past examples of this type of thing being done is a pretty good indicator, as are things like this:

MarkEdwardsHP @zip1515 Yes, I thought it was a mistake & FWIW, I have heard a few #NHL staff from other teams say they were surprised as well.

(Don't worry Zip, I don't stalk you or something, I just did a Twitter search for Girgensons a few days ago and found that conversation. )

I'm still pessimistic about them assigning him to Kelowna though because of stubbornness.
Like some others, I'm sure they still feel that it's a good idea and that he's doing just fine.
Even if they don't, reassigning him would essentially be admitting that they made a mistake and I don't know if that will happen.

Haha, no problem. I meant to post that on these boards, but I got sidetracked and forgot about it.

I'm with you: I hope that they do send him to Kelowna, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

Grigorenko held pointless tonight against Rouyn-Noranda for the 4th time in 26 games. JFB. Grigs has 44 points in 26 games this season.

Catenacci with 2 assists tonight against Sudbury Wolves bringing him up to 40 points in 27 games.
