I actually thought Phoenix was in the top-10. Still, I think that goes quite a ways in explaining the NHL's commitment.

Well, Seattle has a fancy new arena sitting around and they're ranked at 14th. It's more or less a lateral move in that area, and there would probably be a better fan following there.

NHL was forced into that because of the BS that Moyes/Balsille tried

NHL had to protect itself (And was supported by NFL/NBA/MLB and ultimately vindicated by court ruling)

NHL never wanted to own the Coyotes.. And given the new arena and the bad precedent it would set in future with regards to new arean's the NHL has had to try and find a local owner as priority

There is no current potential market to place the Yotes either

- QC has no confirmed ownership group that has stepped forward nor an arena (Yet)
- KC has no ownership group (Do have a very nice arena waiting)
- Sea has no arena or ownership group

Hamilton is never getting team (Will be negative with regards to health of Sabres) nor is the current arena even close to NHL quality

Oops, you're right. Seattle hasn't built that arena yet, they're just moving towards it.

Seattle will build an arena, I don't think finding an owner will be an issue.

Phoenix is a huge hockey market the same way New York City is a huge Rutgers college football market.

I would like to see a list of North American media markets to see where Toronto would fall. Here's a look at population:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._by_population

Toronto - 2.6 million people (of which 1.5 million are way into hockey)

Phoenix - 1.44 million people (of which maybe 100,000 even give a crap at all about hockey)

I was surprised to see Philadelphia come in at number 11 - right behind the bustling, exciting meca of Ecatepec City. Known for it's delicious dog kebobs and La Festiva del Tierra y Varro aka the Festival of Dirt and Mud.

Federal Mediation ended today:

Bill Daly:

Quote:
"Today, we concluded two days of mediation with FMCS mediators and representatives of the NHL Players' Association. After spending several hours with both sides over two days, the presiding mediators concluded that the parties remained far apart, and that no progress toward a resolution could be made through further mediation at this point in time. We are disappointed that the mediation process was not successful."
Donald Fehr:

Quote:
“Today, players and NHLPA staff, along with representatives of the league, concluded a second day of mediation under the auspices of the FMCS. This afternoon, the mediators informed the parties that they did not think it was productive to continue the discussions further today. The mediators indicated that they would stay in contact with the league and the NHLPA, and would call the parties back together when they thought the time was right.”
Decertification here we come?

seriously ???

"no progress toward a resolution could be made through further mediation at this point in time."

that statement basicly tells me that niether side is truely intersted in finding middle ground and resolving this..

this is starting to seem like one of those family fights were both siblings wont talk to each other and make up..

I think it sounds more like each side believes the other is more likely to crack in time to salvage a 50 game season starting in January.

Haha I think if you looked at the metropolitan area Philadelphia has like 6 million people, so I'm guessing that's a couple people more than Ecatepec City. I could be wrong though.

Holy cow, the main board is crazy with that lockout thread. There should be some type of IQ test given before you are allowed to join this board.

That's exactly why they moved the thread from the business board to the main boards

Dolan from the NYR wants to get in on the owners/players talks, but most seem to think Bettman wont let him in. They have clashed in the past and twitter people are saying he is (obviously) going against some of the ideals that hurt the upper money making teams.

Dolan was the main settler of the NBA lockout.

6 players and 6 owners plus Daly and Steve Fehr are getting together Tuesday. Unfortunately, Jacobs is one of the owners.
