Detroit is able to shed some of their roster players (16+ nhl fwds!) and turn them into an upgrade on their top d pairing, Kronwall Byfuglien could be effective compliments to one another. Winnipeg sheds their 3 top pairing d logjam, and adds some real depth to the fwds and a very much needed PK upgrade.
Would allow the Jets to run a very effective 4 line system similar to Boston, and have 2 very good quality 1st/2nd lines and 2 very good 3rd/4th type lines. Salary is a wash.
Agree with the consensus here that Winnipeg doesn't / shouldn't do this. As previously mentioned, if Buff was traded, it would be much better to get a single impact player back instead of multiple lesser pieces.
However, to play along, if it's a quantity proposal including the Wings, if both White and Tatar were replaced and improved on, it could possibly get traction.
Otherwise, keeping one of the highest point producing D men in the game probably makes more sense.
I'm pretty skeptical about Buff's D and what level he can improve it to but he brings so much offence from the backend I can't see us trading him till some of our younger players can pick up that slack. I'm not sure if anyone has statistics on this but just from watching my guess would be his offensive capabilities outweigh his defensive gaffes?
In terms of the Detroit players coming back I really don't think White is the type of defencemen we're looking for even though I like him. I love Helm a lot but I think the 3rd and 4th line jobs are probably going to be taken up by Burmi and Slater plus we have Cormier and Antropov who could also fill those spots. Tatar has put up pretty nice stats in the AHL haven't really seen him play so I'm not really sure what his potential is?
I just don't think that is the return we would be looking to get on Buff IMO.
