im floored by this... absolutely shocked...its already been said but the in game experience will never be the same, his distinct voice and enthusiasm for the Kings is not easily replaced. I remember last season when he was out sick and someone else was calling the game, i was watching at home and even on TV it didn't feel right.
Met him a couple times. Very kind man, gracious and friendly. His voice....the best PA voice around. RIP David. Condolences to your family and friends.
RIP David Courtney. He was easily the best PA announcer I have ver heard. Kings games will never be the same now. Condolences to his family and friends.
I remember they had a backup PA announcer one night when he got sick and had to leave, it was TERRIBLE. His voice is definitely going to be missed.
That was Dave Joseph of ESPN Radio that filled in that night. That being said Dave worked with David at ESPN Radio as well. Was a crappy day for a lot of people here in So Cal.
As an Angels fan I am VERY saddened by this, he has been the PA Announcer ever since i started watching baseball and I am very sickened that the greedy owners and players of the NHL prevented him from doing another NHL game he was a great man
I didn't hear about it until they mentioned it on the radio this morning. That's awful and so sudden too.
Oddly, I never quite made the connection between him as the PA for the Kings and the guy doing traffic reports on KABC even though they clearly said his name.
On my honeymoon back in 2009 I came to a Kings mid-week game in October versus the Wild and I was disappointed that he wasn't there that night as the PA announcer. It just didn't feel like a proper Kings game when the "fill in" was announcing the goals, penalties, etc.
I was lucky enough to be back during the playoffs last April during the Canucks series and it brought a smile to my face and a chill through me when he announced the Dustin Brown goal during Game 3. Something about his voice I won't ever forget.
It was one of the things that would always stick out to me when I watched Hockey Night in Canada after the Kings would score or even just hearing an in-game announcement during a stoppage and I would hear his voice.
Oddly, I never quite made the connection between him as the PA for the Kings and the guy doing traffic reports on KABC even though they clearly said his name.
I remember coming back from Las Vegas and checking traffic in like Victorville and hearing his voice and smiling.
Thoughts and prayers to David's family and friends.
I was shocked by the news when i heard it on the radio last night, and i still am today. I just can't believe it! He will be sorely missed. RIP David Courtney, and thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
