Which is awesome. I just wish it wasn't the only thing we have to root for.

I'm particularly happy that Matteau is beasting it up.

That is extreme. I guess they want to make an example of them to make sure this stuff doesn't happen in the future.

Perhaps it was the duration and continuance of the offenses?
It could have been a case where they were given prior warnings and let off the hook until they were finally told, "put a stop to this or you're going to face some dire consequences."

Stefan Matteau and the Armada will be on Sportsnet next Wednesday. Last time Matteau was slated to be on National TV he was suspended.

For anyone who might be able to watch!

Any chance the NHL network will cover that?

On their schedule listing they have this for that time slot:

Canadian Hockey League: Regular Season Game from 12/05/12

So it's probable that they will.

Here is a post I made about Matteau for those interested;

He does not have the quickest first stride, but I'm always surprise as to how fast he is going on the ice. He is not slow, and he is not a speedster, he is just fast. For a guy his size, already being ''just'' fast is pretty good. He's got plenty of time to work on his acceleration.

As for his shooting, it is not perfect. He needs a bit of time to get it off, but that can be worked on. He has a lot of strenght on his shot, it's heavy, goaltenders have trouble controlling the rebounds. It's not as accurate as a Joe Sakic of course, but it's getting there. He can definitely pick the corners.

If I were to rate Matteau NHL13-style with relation to his peers (CHLers), here's how I'd do it:

Acceleration: 6/10
Speed: 8/10
Passing: 6/10
Stickhandling: 7/10
Vision: 8/10
Shooting power: 9/10
Shooting accuracy: 7/10
Hitting: 9/10
Agressiveness: 9/10
Intensity: 7/10
Defensive coverage: 5/10
Poke checking: 6/10
Shot blocking: 5/10
Overall awareness: 7/10
Hockey sense: 8/10

Thanks for writing all of that up, much appreciated.
Can I bother you to go into detail about this rating?
You ranked him pretty high in terms of "hockey sense", so what is missing from his defensive game? Easy to improve on or will he be a player in need of a good two-way guy on his line at all times? (Obviously an important detail on these Devils teams )

Stickwork? Just a guess. Hockey sense usually goes hand in hand with defensive abilities. Not everytime in both zones though.

Boucher has a hattrick with a period left to go. Boucher has picked up 19 goals and 10 assists so far this season.

He's playing on the left/right wing (depending on which wing Gally plays on) of Galchenyuk and Sarault for most of the season and he's having on hell of a year. Boucher has slowly become one of my favourite players in the OHL. He's got it all. Hockey sense, defensive play, great hands, a bit of grit, and of course goal scoring. He hasn't exactly been the most consistent player. He also gets a boatload of chances every game, so it's not surprising the numbers that he's putting up. He could easily have 30 goals by now. I can't count how many times Galchenyuk or Sarault have set up him for easy goals and he's whiffed on them completely. I think a part of that has to do with the release of his shot. He's a rocket of a shot (wrist, snap, and slapper) but his release is slow and inconsistent.

With that said he's a threat to score almost every time he's on the ice and he's certainly not just a product of his line mates. He protects the puck extremely well, especially for his size, and has incredible instincts around the net. It's hard to believe Boucher was taken in the fourth round two years ago. Great player.

EDIT: Boucher picks up an assist on Alex Galchenyuk's goal. 4 point night with 4 minutes remaining in the third.

EDIT 2: Boucher gets another assist on Charlie Sarault's empty netter. 3 goals and 2 assist tonight. Best player on the ice tonight. He picked up first star honours too.

I'll be disappointed if we don't see Matteau and Boucher both on the team.

He isnt Andrei Kostitsyn-bad defensively of course he is pretty smart the problem is he is more dedicated to the offensive part of the game and as a banging winger will often be the last player of his team on the backcheck. Won't do anything special in the defensive zone aside from looking at easy targets vulnerable for big hits. He will not really drop down to block shots or track down someone through the zone for an awesome poke check... if you know what I mean.

It is not a problem of being lazy maybe at the next level of course being a Devils prospect you guys will have coaches teaching him exactly how to play your system.. I'm sure he will learn right. As of right now though he is not being asked to be an ace defensively.

Thanks again for the perspective. I haven't had the chance to watch him play yet, but I'll be tuning into his game on Wednesday for certain. Wanted to know what to look out for And it's good to know that his downsides are coachable issues.

Anyone catch that Windsor/Kitchener game tonight? I'm gonna watch it tomorrow and try to get a real good read on our two star-crossed Bens from last year. I wanna know what everyone else thinks about them too. It's fun and interesting to see how what YOU see in a game compares to what someone else sees.

Johnson is 12 for Windsor and Thomson is 15 for Kitchener.
