Both BC games vs BU are on NBC Sports Network this weekend. Games start at 7:30 eastern time Friday and Saturday. Matheson is #5 and plays top D pairing, top powerplay point, and kills penalties. He seems like he gets more ice time than any other guy on the roster, impressive for a freshman.
Huberdeau has been tearing it up lately. He is so ready to enter the NHL.
He is tearing it up lately. He has 3 assists tonight midway thru the game. If he doesn't score any more points tonight, he'll have 13 points in the last 5 games.

Apparently they took an assist away from Huberdeau tonight, but still very productive lately.
He's simply keeping his trade value up
If we didn't trade him, Saint John could probably go a couple of rounds with the team we have. But we'll hopefully move him to Boisbriand-Blainville or Quebec, where he should be able to go to the finals.
I'm not saying he cant make the adjustment though. Im just saying it would be better for us and him to make the pro adjustment in the minors. Its rare that a prospect goes straight to the NHL from NCAA minus a few exceptions (Toews, Statsny, Oshie). I'm thinking that Bjugstad will follow a similar path as David Backes (with a similar career upside) and he spent like half a yr in the AHL after leaving college after 3 yrs. I just dont know how that works with our current lineup if we had a season this yr.
As far as Tallon saying there would be 2 rookies, I dont believe that is true. I think he said rookies would be given a chance to compete in camp. But outside of Huberdeau, I dont think anyone was expected to make the club this yr (and only because Hubs couldnt play in the AHL and had nothing left to prove in juniors). Also, its entirely possible that one of the rookies he was thinking of was Howden and not necessarily Bjugstad. Howden was expected to compete for a bottom 6 role from what I remember during the offseason so I think that would be the other guy in the 1-2 Tallon was mentioning as having a chance at a roster spot. And remember that he traded for Wellman in the offseason so he wouldve been a rookie included to be given a chance at a roster spot.
At this rate, we'll be seeing Bjugstad, Huberdeau, Gudbranson, Markstrom, etc. all playing in the AHL next season.

Based on the interview with Santos recently, I think Markstrom may have played in the AHL another yr regardless of the lockout situation. Here's the quote I'm referring to:
Quote:
Because of the lockout, Santos isn’t allowed to talk about the players on the Panthers, but is allowed to discuss their AHL affiliate in San Antonio where he’s the GM. He’s not concerned with goalie Jacob Markstrom’s poor start (2-5, 3.61 GAA).
“It’s the AHL; it’s a good league,’’ Santos said. “I went through this with Pekka Rinne in Nashville where we thought he was ready in Year 4 and it took til Year 5. Goalies develop a little bit later and he needs that time in net. I’m not worried about it. We’re going to be patient, he’s only 22 years old. Most of these goalies don’t really hit their stride until their mid- to late 20s.'
Most likely yeah, Knight and possibly Megan (who's a senior at BC). And there's spots to be had there because after this yr, the guys in San Antonio that are unrestricted free agents include: Jacques, Deveaux, Yonkman, Rallo, DeSantis, DGM, and Strachan. Based on that list, I kinda wonder if the Rampage need to find a way to add a couple of defenders by next yr. The possibility of losing 3 (and 1 in Strachan wasnt even suppose to be there) while only adding Guds means they need a couple of guys. Maybe Racine may be able to play for the Rampage next season too but not sure about that.

Tonight's the night. It will be my first live look at Matheson. I'm very curious to see what this kid has got, with the skating, the offensive awareness and so forth.

Well, since I can't see for myself, could you give us your impression of the kid when you get a chance?

I'm finishing up some work while watching this game in the background. I can't tell you much, but I'll say what everyone always says about him... he's a fantastic skater. Pierre was just praising him for it a couple of minutes ago.
And he had a pretty good chance at scoring a goal off of a rebound, but shot the puck wide.

I'm not very good at this but here goes, the kid can skate. It should tell you something when you get the impression that he is an upperclassmen even though he is a freshman. Smooth, calm, doesn't get rattled. Can really move the puck, and as far as I can see is much better than I expected defensively. Definitely comparable to Brian Campbell. And I'm really probably not doing him justice with this description.

Anyone surprised by trocheck? Putting up big numbers.
I'm not. Not that I can actually see him play. It'll be easier once he gets to the AHL. I envision him at least being able to take over for Goc/Kopy in the future.
