I wanted Sal back. I would have been a lot happier if the contract was for a million less a year though. He really wanted to be here, and had he not gone to free agency we probably could have kept him, for $2-$2.5 million a year. Maybe he would have wanted more cause of his playoff run though, and knowing he was in for a nice pay day.
I think Lou just matched what was offered to him on the market. At 36 he's making more than he did on his last contract. Which is why I'm hoping Zubrus does not get as much as he's getting now, on his next contract.

Don't hold your breath, we need forwards a lot more than we do defensemen.

Agreed, and I'd love to keep Zubrus, but not at $3.5 million again. Hopefully he'll stay for cheaper. Especially when a player like Ponikarovsky is getting only $1.7 million. The only thing better about a 35 year old Zubrus, than a 32-33 year old Poni is he can play center. And he's been a great player for us over the years, so I'd bend a little bit with giving him more than he's worth.
Perhaps maybe we can trade some D prospects for forward prospects to a team that has plenty of forwards on the farm, and not enough defensemen?

Zidlicky gives us something we've been desperatly lacking for the past 5 or 6 years... a legit threat from the point.
I was under the impression that Salvador was going to resign elsewhere when taking into consideration that our current blueline is pretty full ATM and that we have one or two prospects who are looking to make the big club as well.
Having both Sal and A-Train on our blueline, eating just over 7.4M$ combined, isn't the best way to maximise our cap space/money IMO, especially when we have to resign key players this off season the likes of Zajac/Elias/Zubrus/Clarkson/Zidlicky and a couple of RFA's (but the difference for our RFA's are going to be marginal at best).
We're not likely to be anywhere near the cap, so it probably doesn't matter, but I agree with you, Salvador is making too much on this contract.

And specifically forwards in the mould of Zubrus. Big and gritty, but also skilled enough to score when he gets the chance.
We could be near the cap though if it goes down. With raises to Zajac, and Clarkson. And RFA raises to Josefson, and Henrique. I don't expect Tedenby or Butler to get a significant raise. Even if there is a season, neither will probably even get a one way contract either. Josefson probably won't get as big of a raise as he probably should, so he should be a nice bargain.
Can't we keep Zubrus without giving him what he made on this contract?
The St Johns guys came here, and linked us to a site last time we played. Forgot if that was just an audio, or a video stream. I've got the AHL radio broadcast on.
LOL What's up with this broadcast? Sounds like a skipping cassette sometimes!
Albany announcer says the last call a high sticking on Parse was BS. 3 consecutive PP's for St John's and scoring on the 3rd one. Gotta get it back. If they can score to save their life that is.
4th penalty of the period being called. Mcpherson for hooking. Am I the only one who doesn't like Hoeffel at all? I call him LOLffel. Does not impress me whatsoever.
Another pathetic effort, and shutout against for Albany. Lose Henrique, nobody scores. Frazee played out of his mind it sounds, but they couldn't score one goal. Only allowed 1 goal, and sounds like they were better defensively. It's either score a bunch of goals, and allow a bunch, or allow hardly any, but not score any either. They would have lost in the shootout anyway.
Deja vu. There's that one constant! Along with the no progress in CBA quote! They're the new status quo!
I just don't get it. When they go on a tear, and light up the lamp, they can't seem to keep the puck out of the net either. When they keep the puck out of the net, they can't put anything in the net.
They have an excuse now with Henrique out, but he's not the only guy on the team to score a goal this season. How was Albany after the 18 game mark last season? That was without Henrique, Josefson, Larsson, and even Tedenby.
This team is pitiful. Seriously, NJ never has a good farm team.
Yeah not really since the 90s as the River Rats. We even sucked that year during the last lockout when Parise was playing there. They did make the playoffs 3 years ago up in Lowell under John Maclean as head coach somehow. The teams haven't been anything special for the last decade plus, aside from a few good years. Nothing consistent though.

Yeah Hoeffel is awful. But so are Sislo, Pesonen, and Wholberg. They all should be in the ECHL.

I don't really like any of those guys either. Pesonen is good here, and there but at the NHL level I'm convinced he'll be another Pikkawhateverhisnamewas. Wohlberg blah, Sislo blah. I don't see any of these guys having an NHL future. If they do I can't see it being more than a Sestito type call up guy.

I completely disagree. They are all solid all-around forwards who can also score. Statlines look bad for them because of the Tedenby, JJ, Butler, and Henrique in the AHL. That's four players playing the top six, likely where those guys would be right now.
I don't think they're ECHL players, but certainly can't see them as NHL players. If they are there's a possible chance one might see NHL ice time. I actually prefer Whitney to all of them, and think he could be a solid skilled 4th line guy in the NHL one day. Especially if we eventually lose any of CBGB.
Trust me I don't think you would have wanted to watch the last 4 games! Well the one in AC wasn't so bad, and we got goals from Josefson, Tedenby, Butler, and Henrique, but lost in shootout. I actually want my two hours back for listening to the game tonight!
Once they scored the first goal you could tell in the 2nd we were getting shutout. Frazee was playing out of his mind, so you knew they were going down by a mere 1-0.
