Perhaps no one will listen to James Dolan of the Rangers -- who stands to lose at least $60 million if the puck isn't dropped just as his team would be denied its shot at the Cup -- just as no one listened to him a few years ago when he petitioned the board to dismiss Gary Bettman, but silence from the Blueshirts' CEO simply would be unacceptable
I've never especially cared about the business aspect of pro sports because sports in general has never been about that for me. I could care less if theyre fighting over $1, 1Billion or 100Billion.
Its about greed for the owners imo. Its always been about greed for the owners. And it always will be about greed for the owners. For some reason people care when players make money but dont care when actors/actresses get paid 25M a movie or something. Never understood it.
Like I said though I fully expected it.
The good news: One step closer to Brooklyn 2015. Maybe then we will spend money and start acting like an actual NHL franchise.

Dolan is known as a wild card among the owners. He just wants the game on to make his guarenteed revenues he gets as one of the top franchises in the league in the worlds largest corporate market. He doesn't care about the rest of the league - its all about him. Shall we return to his consistent financial mishaps that very few franchises in the league could truly eat?
Re movies: Because those a calculated risks built into the budget of the film and overall portfolio of the studio. If the league had control of every team that would be the case, but they are separately owned by 30 different owners (29 actually). Different story entirely.

On the contrary its pretty much a fact Dolan is well respected by NBA owners and players and its because by every account he pretty much minds his own business while not feeling a need to crush the players. I dont like him as an owner because he seems to meddle at times with regards to the GM's job and personnel but I think he does care about the league.
In '94 I didn't really understand what was going on. In my mind, everyone was on a ''strike''. In '04 I was very upset and really cared. It was all I thought about, and I followed coverage everyday. This year, I refuse to let myself get angry over it. Yes it sucks, but why should I invest emotionally in something that only exemplifies greed and money? At my age now, I realize how lucky we all are to live in this corner of the world. Most of us don't have to worry about going hungry, or living among violence or wars. For the most part, life is good. I've been able to travel to a lot of poorer countries since '04 and my perceptions have changed. How can I care about millionaires vs billionaires, when I have seen children begging in the streets and people working 3 jobs to make ends meet?
I love hockey with everything in my heart. But I refuse to let myself get upset over what has essentially become 2 sides who wants to pick a fight and win. There are other more important things in life to worry about. It's just a GAME. A game that all these people should be grateful to even be a part of. But nope, its not enough to bring home millions of dollars. Human nature dictates that greed will always overcome reasoning. So no, I'm not upset, only annoyed that it has come to this. There are way more important things in life to worry about, then how much $$$ a bunch of spoiled people make.

Although I voted I care the same I feel indifferent. I do love Hockey and The Isles both sides really need to feel the effect of this and hammer out something where both parties benefit.....for a while. I do like the fact that the Isles younger players are developing at the right talent level though. I hope this season is canceled and when they come back the Isles will have a stronger team because of it. I can hope can't I? LOL
The last lockout at least addressed a huge inequality, it addressed a huge problem. Teams like the Rangers could spend 70 million, while teams like the Islanders could spend 25 million and get away with it. I think the league is better for the last lockout, especially with the rule changes. Now small market teams can compete and win against big market teams. That said, the league missed the boat in not including the Isles as small market team.
I am upset about this lockout because I believe quite a few (probably most) owners want to drop the puck immediately. 50/50 sounds like a fair deal to most of them. It's being held up with the Jacobs and Dolans of the NHL who think owning a sports franchise should be like owning Apple stock, and Bettman is subservient to those owners.
If the league put selected owners in a meeting room with most players (and even D. Fehr) they'd come up with a deal in two hours. A 50/50 deal with new player rules and new owner rules.
What the problem is right now is a small minority of hawk owners dominating a majority of dovish owners.
