Very happy about that debut from Kerdiles, both for the US and the Ducks.

I really liked what I saw out of McCabe, too.

I'll echo the praise of Kerdiles. He looked great tonight.

Liked McCabe and Shore as well.

I think Kerdiles got better as the game went on which is a testament to his skill as he clearly isnt in 100% game shape yet. For that kid to go out there (though he didnt get a point) and play in a tight game like this, and look as good as he did gives me a lot of hope for him as a player, and the depth of this US squad.

McCabe was just something special to watch tonight. I came away extremely impressed with his skating and defensive game...this kid can be our shutdown guy and I wouldnt think twice about it.

I wish Shore was a 93 birthday!!! ahhhhh!

He would have had a point if the Badgers had anybody who could score. He sent one guy in on a mini breakaway on goal late.

outside of him and Galchenyuk destroying Saginaw tonight, he should be a slam dunk for this squad...having a hell of a year.....and should be a top 6 player for the US.

well the Badgers do have 1 man that can score, as he did it again tonight: Michael Mersch... I am hoping Kerdiles gets on the top line soon with Mersch asap...

I belive Nic set up Dahl on the semi break rush...sweet pass, but no finish

Indeed Mersch is literally the only guy who seems to be able to score.

there are enough burners on this team to allow for a Biggs/Matteau to make this squad.

The overrating of big ice on here sometimes is madness! It will have an affect on certain games, but nothing earth shattering like some claim it to be. if anything, the big ice stops the flow of the game that we have enjoyed from the previous North American WJC's...too much ice can lead to less hitting, battling, and back and forth play...sometimes teams just get lost in their own end at times with all that room.

Biggs is a player that works best inside the bluelines. He wont have an issue between the bluelines as thats not his game. He will do just fine keeping up on the big ice, but in tournaments like these, you simply need guys who can outmuscle and outwork opponents in the corners and infront of the next, which is exactly what Biggs does best. No matter the ice size, that role is still needed 110%.

you are acting as if these games are just back and forth matches of ping pong on ice, with no moments of cycling down low and corner work going on. Biggs will have a specific role to play, and there will be plenty of time during every game where he will get to play his role...not bringing him for fear of a bigger ice surface is beyond stupid and idiotic combined.

you dont leave your best warrior at home for a battle.

Biggs has been in a force in international tournaments on the big ice on several occasions. He's fine.

I sound like I'm bashing him, he is a good player, its just that I'm not sure his skating will help with the big ice but I could be wrong.

Thanks
I think there's a chance that happens. The U.S. is going to feature multiple smallish skill players, so a guy like Biggs could be a nice asset. Here's who I have so far:

Goaltenders (x3):

Gibson
Sparks
Gillies

Defensemen (x7):

Seth Jones/Jack McCabe
Jacob Trouba/Matt Grzelcyk
Connor Murphy/Shayne Gostisbehere
Mike Reilly

Forwards (x13):

JT Miller/Alex Galchenyuk/Reid Boucher
Johnny Gaudreau/Vince Trocheck/Stefan Noesen
Riley Barber/Henrik Samuelsson/Rocco Grimaldi
Tyler Biggs/Nick Kerdiles/Stefan Matteau
Adam Erne

I highly doubt Biggs is the top line. Those are likely to be the players though there, give or take a few.

my response may sound condescending so I will apologize ahead of time...

but

Biggs doesnt make this team for his skating as his skating will be pretty irrelevant with the role and game he plays...

Biggs isnt going to the WJC to be one of our better skaters. The US brass knows this and his role will rely less on skating and more on physical play and infront of the crease work.

Can anyone confirm whether Matteau actually plays center? He's been taking between 3-8 faceoffs a game (generally winning a very good % of them) since the season started, but I don't know if it's just an Iginla sorta thing where he takes them because he's good at them, and then moves to wing.

Lucia also had two goals tonight. Should be interesting to see what USAH does with them.

Grimaldi set up the game-tying goal with 14 seconds left, and then set up the game winner a minute into OT in NoDak's come from behind win against CC. He was also stopped on a clean breakaway and hit multiple posts on the weekend. He is a little snake bitten right now to say the least.
