I've heard the Malkin comparison thrown around, but I don't see it...

I see a mix-blend of Koptiar/Thornton.. I've heard people also throw around the Datsyuk style... It's there sometimes, but not often enough....

So I'll stand pat with the Koptiar/Thornton comparison.

Kopitar would be another good comparison but I think he will be a better goal scorer than Kopitar.

This is kinda off topic but I would like to see the Flames try and sign Jori Lehterä from the KHL. He is a 6'1 center that is 24 and has 54 points in the last 51 games. I think if Iggy were to go, signing Jori as well as a top 10 pick could go a long way to replacing Iggy. As it would allow Cammy to move to wing.

Do the Blues still own his rights? i.e.: Ramo plays in the KHL but the Flames hold his rights.

That's not true. New Jersey has to forfeit their first rounder either in 2013 or 2014. They still have 2 drafts to pick. I doubt they forfeit their pick in this deep draft.

Depends entirely on where they pick this year I think. Shocked they didn't give it up last year.

They might but he has no contract and I haven't heard if he was offered one so he could be a UFA, I think he is an interesting option even we have to trade for him.

If we can land a top pick this year I would love for us to use our 3rd to try and find another Gaudreau in Taylor Cammarata he is out pacing JG so far and could go in the second round so we might have to trade up to get him.

Id take mackinnon and jones first and second. i think you have to be pretty wasted to think otherwise.

good thing is we need a stud d prospect as much as anything else. so i kinda hope we pick early and get jones.

Pretty sure you couldn't trade Howse for a 1986 Chevette at this point.

Not to say he isn't awesome.
Malkin's an interesting comparable. I sort of like it. Kopitar sort of works but I don't think it's a great one. And Datsyuk isn't that great IMO.

I like Sundin as a comparable.

Love to grab Oliver Bjorkstrand with the Flames third, if he's still available.

I'd also be willing to take a flyer on Jordan Subban in the third round. He's definitely undersized which would be a concern but in the third its much less of a risk than if you were to take a player that small in the first or second (although an argument could be made that since the Flames 3rd is their second pick it might be just as risky but I digress). However he fits a huge need in our system, that of a puck moving dman. He's very talented offensively and while he needs work defensively, the risk is well worth it for the upside he has. Plus he plays an aggressive game, size being damned.

Another potential option later on would be Chris Bigras. Not big or small, and pretty strong defensively and starting to show a higher offensive ability this year. He's lower risk than Subban but also represent less offensive upside or probability at playing an offensive game. Still his all around upside is much higher than Subban's.

Eric Roy is another option. He plays for Brandon and owns good size being 6 foot 3. He's seemingly regressed from a 53 point season last year (and this being his third WHL season, one would expect a larger offensive impact) however it could be a result of Brandon's drop in offensive ability with the loss of Stone, Ferland and Brendan Walker. Roy is currently third in team scoring behind on Pulock and Bertaggia. He's another possible puck moving dman with some good upside if he can grow properly. His plus/minus hasn't been pretty this year but again it may be indicative of his team more than of him. He won't go to high so the risk is again not huge for his potential upside.

When he's UFA age, I think. That's the way it is with players who play in KHL.

Next CBA may change that, though.

If it's a snake draft, and Calgary were picking 29th...

Especially if the season is cancelled. It gives them at least something to show the fans rather than nothing.

I've only watched him once too, but I didn't think Jones was anything special. I actually thought both Pouliot and Wotherspoon looked WAY better. Jones got roasted several times in their lone appearance here. He is a big boy that has good top end speed though. I've heard he's not done growing yet, so he could end up being Chara sized. He's definitely better than Chara was at the same age.

I have a feeling Jones is going to be like Hedman a lot of hype but turns into just a solid defense man nothing special.
