Maybe it is why others hate Nichael Grigorenko ;-) But I like players able to appreciate the Quebec market

Even if he wasn't playing for Remparts, he appreciated the fans and most of it... He says it!

Come on! Tremblay was the guy who destroyed Habs... Since that old story, Habs never won anything... They had Roy to do the job and then... NOTHING since!

Today, PKP went to visit the arena construction site and was saying it's impressive and all, but at the end he even mentions that it's progressing well and that they're even ahead of time.

http://www.journaldequebec.com/video.../2000693730001 (french)

I hope the Winter doesn't last too long so that they can resume work as early as possible next Spring. (unless they can continue even during Winter?)

That guy in the excavator at 0:17...dude's got balls.

Also I believe they said they will keep working thru winter. The most important thing they need to get done before the ground gets too frozen is to put those support poles in (I believe that is almost done).

Normaly 6 feet. But they have to dig 1,000 piles like that (note the 3 diggers on the site) http://www.ville.quebec.qc.ca/webcameras/index.aspx and this will be done during winter, no problem with that. As you said SaS, not a big deal our engineers are used to deal with that

Just to give you an idea of the thing, http://www.takenaka.co.jp/takenaka_e.../m0807_01.html , all the job is done under the 6' permafrost

LaPresse posted two articles today about strong rumors that the NHL is considering a two team expansion by 2015-2016 season.

In first article they analyze potential cities and markets (Markham, Quebec, Seattle)
Original french / Google translate

In the second article they speak about the expansion rumors and cite a few anonymous sources.

EDIT : Just saw that Matrix78 posted earlier this morning the first of the press releases.

Google translation:

While the excavation and installation of piles run smoothly on the site of the amphitheater, a new step will be taken tomorrow with the opening of tenders for the construction of foundations.

"To date, we are ahead of schedule," says Vice President of the Executive Council, François Picard. On the eve of the opening of bids for the reinforcement, formwork and concrete supply, the City estimates that the work is therefore in a few weeks ahead of schedule.

"It was beautiful, the contractor has worked very hard to dig the hole when it was sunny. It allowed him to work dry. It has not rained a lot during the fall to date then it is fine, there are no surprises, "says Mr. Picard.

He also added that the ground was consistent with environmental standards, and therefore no contamination. "A sump was obsolete," he says referring to the only glitch encountered.

New stage

While work continues on the ground, the City opens tomorrow bids for the concrete base of the amphitheater. "We opened bids for the foundation Thursday, so we'll see compared to our valued where it is," says Picard.

However, it will wait a few weeks to see which company will get this major contract, the time that the site responsible for assessing whether the documents submitted are in compliance.

François Picard says anyway that the period of freezing inevitably limits the progress since the concrete foundations can not be poured when the ground is frozen. Moreover, the straw will be extended into the hole of the amphitheater used for insulation during winter and thus forestall the period of spring thaw. "We are still installing piles throughout the winter and also the heads of concrete piles. It should be completed in March. " Thawing, the construction of the foundation should begin until the end of August.

Subsequently, the erection of the steel structure should begin.

To resume (a tad bit better than google) and as I pointed out earlier, the ground freezing will somewhat slow the work.

So, until march 2013 they will continue to install the piles.
Roughly march or as soon as ground temperature allows it and all the way to August they will pour the foundations concrete.
My estimate, in september we should see first signs of metal structure.

Sure!

So the digging is done, and they are a few weeks ahead of schedule. Next step is the fondations, though they can't start yet, they are doing a call for tenders first. Work on the fondations will then start in the spring.

But that doesn't mean everything's on hold until spring time; fondation-piles will be hammered in the ground during the winter.

Been a long time eh ?

No sadly they are not back...yet.

We've got a brand new 18k+ hockey configuration arena under construction. If everything goes well it should open in September 2015 (as of today, the crew is a few weeks ahead of schedule).

There are more and more rumors that the league is strongly considering an expansion by 2015-2016. To add to that, we know that friends (for now) in GTA of Toronto are working on projects and that out other friends (for now) in Seattle are also working on getting a new arena (completion date unknown but my guess is somewhere around 2015 ).

While we're waiting on that, there is still a great show of absurdity to follow down in Glendale, AZ. Even tho they approved a $300M+/20 years deal to Greg Jamison, a guy thats been trying to get investors together to purchase the Coyotes for $170M for more than a year, we're keeping positive.

The deal is currently in a legal 30day grace periode where citizens are trying to put it down for referendum (if succesful, the referendum could strongly get it overturned) but one way or the other, chances are pretty high either Jamison realises Coyotes can't make it down there or Glendale goes BK and the deal is over.

So yeah, our dear Nordiques aren't back yet, but it's just a question of time for when they are.

Expansion?? HEEEEEEEEELLLLL NO. After all this contraction is more likely than expansion. Quebec will eventually get their team, but it'll be from relocation of an existing team
